Butterfly Trouser: Upcycling Leftover Fabric into a Beautiful Flare Pant

Happy New Week dear lovely hivers, wishing everyone a great and productive week ahead.

I almost thought I wouldn't meet up with today's needleworkmonday post after having a tough night taking care of my second daughter who suddenly developed stomach flu in the middle of the night that had her vomiting the whole night, it isn't easy watching our children go through the such ordeal when they are ill that I wish I could take the burden off her during the moment, but such is life, illnesses would one day find its way no matter the preventive measures we take, and since we don't always have our eyes on the children at all times especially since they have to go to school.

it's a relief she didn't get admitted, as she recovered quickly after administering ORS and following the other instructions given by the doctor, in addition to that no school for her today, so I will keep a close watch on her as she recovers, she's asleep now, so I thought to share the fun fancy pant I made for her during the weekend using leftover fabric from a previous dress I made,

I have always fancied having a flare pant but never had the chance to make one, so I thought to have my first trial using this fabric, it's not up to a meter. thankfully I have my little one whose measurement is just right to make this flare pant.

Materials used

  • Ankara fabric
  • matching color thread

Cutting And Sewing Process

IMG_20250210_123549_641.jpg

  • I started by drafting and cutting out the upper front pattern of the trousers, which stops right after her kneel

  • using the front trouser pattern, I extended it and cut out the back pattern

  • Next, I sewed both front and back crotch

  • Continuing, I cut out two fares whose radius is determined by the hem measurement or round kneel of the trouser, since I would be attaching them.

  • I joined both sides of the trouser, before sewing the flare around both hems

  • Finally, I sewed the inseam area of the trouser down to its hem, I also made a casing around the waist were I passed a string which would be used to tie the trouser firmly around the waist, as I didn't have an elastic at home.

That completes the making process of this trouser, she asked that she pair it with this her yellow blouse I made a long time ago, I didn't hesitate since it pairs perfectly.

she likes her new trousers and even gave it the name butterfly trousers, hence the title of this post, if it looks likea butterfly to her, then it is lol,

Finishing this trouser, I learned how I could manipulate mine to give a perfect fit as well, and another addition was decluttering, and making something useful out of the leftover fabric instead of having it clutter my sewing room.

I hope you learned something through this post too.
