Bridesmaid Dress in Progress
Greetings dear creative hivers, I hope you are having a great and productive week going, it's almost the weekend and here I am trying to put the finishing touches on the sewing project I took up at the beginning of this week, but first, I will like to use this medium to give a shout out and send a birthday wish to my darling husband whose birthday is today 13th of February, I want to say I love you and wish you heaven's best this new season of your birth celebration, oh let me go ahead and tag him @dandeereal, hopefully, he picks up his hive activities soonest.
Back to today's post, a hiver friend is getting married soon, and she reached out to my sister @treasuree to be one of her bride's maids, how I'm so jealous, it's been like ages I stood as someone bridesmaid, maybe these brides think I'm too old or busy, or probably because almost all my friends are married, so this is me telling all my intending hive brides that I'm not o 😂, I'm still available to me someone's bridesmaid.
Thankfully, I still get to play the role of making their dresses most of the time, and here is one out of the two dresses I would be making for my sister, though I'm 80% done with this dress as I am yet to decide on a sleeve style, the reason why I thought to share my progress and maybe I could get an idea or inspiration from you, my creative readers.
The fabric was chosen by the bride herself as her maids would be adorned in the same fabric but the style choice was left to the maids to choose according to their preference, So far, I made a straight gown with a V-neckline, pairing the ankara fabric with chantilly lace, draped to the side and hip area, and also a snatched waist effect using a plain black fabric on the waistline.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Cutting and Sewing Process
- I had difficulty starting this pattern drafting as I forgot to buy more pattern papers, so I was left with no choice but to draft on fabric, the disadvantage of this is that it might result in fabric wastage if I don't pay keen attention while drafting, thankfully, it didn't get to that.
- Next, I transferred the drafted pattern to the plain fabric and also the tulle and lace for the neckline area
- I also did the same for the back pattern
- continuing, I used a straight long skirt pattern for the lower part of this dress and draped the chantilly lace on the hip area before joining it by the waistline to the upper side of the dress pattern.
- I would be lacing the upper back instead of using a zipper, so I left the middle bare and would be fixing eyelets later, not forgetting to add a zipper to the lower skirt part after joining,
- Lastly, I joined the shoulder area, and the bridesmaid dress is almost completed. Here is what it looks like now, so what type of sleeves would you love to see on this dress style, looking forward to your suggestions.

This is beautiful and sexy
Lol thank you Mary
😍
How fun to be able to attend a wedding as a bridesmaid... I haven't been to one in a long time either so like you, I'd love to be invited to one soon.
The dress looks beautiful. I think it would look good with small, subtle sleeves, like those that barely cover the shoulders. Although sleeveless looks beautiful too.
Cheers, have a nice day ❤️.
That makes two of us 🤭 they should remember to include us next time
Thanks for your suggestion, I think it's perfect for this dress too, giving it that subtle look, but this bridesmaid wants a dramatic sleeve😂
Cheers! Have a nice day too and happy Valentine's Day ❤️
