Diy// cutting and sewing process of kimono dress of my cousin
Hello Hive
Pleasant new week to the beautiful family here ,hope you had great weekend, In all that you do, never give up, try harder as success comes to those who don't give up.
One of my mommy auntie daughter came to visit me last week and she said that she will be glad if I make her a dress I have this Kampala at home that I've used it to make two of my cousin cloth actually I wanted to use the remain fabric to make a short and dansiki top for myself so I have no choice just to use the fabric to make her something unique for her.
Measurement required of the dress;
Length 50
Bust 30
Waist 26
Hip 32
Sleeves 17
Shoulder/ back 13
I folded the fabric in 4 with 16" since it's a bubu dress , the sleeves will be cut together with the main bodice.
Firstly I marked 1inches up then I rule a straight line to the end of the folded fabric that will serve at my starting line after that I proceed with my horizontal line the shoulder line bust line the waistline the hip line and the full length of the dress the next thing I do is to input my vertical measurement starting with the shoulder I added the sleeve with the shoulder and I come down by 1.5 for my shoulder slope moving to the vertical line I input a bust, waist and hip measurement an added 4inches for the ease and seam allowance and connect the mark point, for the down of dress I input what is on the hip to the down part then connect it.
Proceed to the neck for the back I make use of 3 by 1.5 and the front neck and make use of 3 by 5 is a v-neck cut and remove the back block put it aside to work on the front.
For the front block it will be having this little design V neck which I combined the plain Aso-Oke with the dress I wish I have the strip one it will actually bring out the beauty of the style but nevertheless the outcome was really nice.
I fold the aso-oke into two and placed the front block on it.
I make sure the neck area is at the tip of the aso-oke like it was shown on the picture after that I Mark 0.5 downward for were the V neck line stop and cut.
I sewn on the 0.5 I marked after that this how it look.
Before I attach it to the dress I cut out facing for the back I make use of the aso-oke to turn it outward and for the font I will be using the Kampala fabric to face it before attaching the the design on it.
After all was done I join the front and back shoulder together and are the sleeve area I cut out 3inches and sewn it on the sleeve then I shape and hem the down part of the dress .
