Hey lovelies ❤️

Welcome to my blog 🤗

In this post I will be sharing with you how I made a flare gown for one of my customers' daughter graduation from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School. Over the last couple of weeks Parents and Guardians have been preparing for the end of the session activities and one of them is the graduation ceremony for the pupils that are moving from one class to another.

Materials Needed

  • 2 yards Mikado fabric
  • ½ yards Sequence velvet
  • 2 yards Lining
  • 1 yard hard net
  • Tailoring chalk
  • Matching threads

Measurement

  • Shoulder 13"
  • Bust 33"
  • Half length 14"
  • Gown length 44"

Step by Step

  • I started by drafting on my lining which I later used in cutting the actual fabric.

  • We are working with velvet and mikado fabric, the velvet is actually very tricky so to simplify this iron hair stay on the wrong side of the fabrics. This prevent it from being so stretchy.

  • So, I went ahead to join the upper part of this dress.

  • For the down part I folded my fabric to a triangular form and made sure it was in four layers so her waist is 27", so 27"/4=6.75" plus 6" =12.75". I added 6” because I will be making a kiss pleat, so I took the length of the dress minus the upper part which is 14", that is, 44"-14=30".

  • Then, I cut out the flare so from the front of the dress I want it a little shorter so I redid the front by 5".

  • Next, I went ahead to join this to the upper part and I added hard net to it. I used a long stripe but you can cut yours depending on the length you want but note it must be shorter than the lining.

  • Then I attached the lining to the dress and gave it a good press.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.

The color of the dress is really beautiful, the pink sequins combined with the Mikado is really cute, I'm sure she'll rock the dress!
