A Wiser Choice

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to appreciate taking a pause on making a late-night mistake!

A Wiser Choice

Sometimes we get into an idea for something.. and realize it's probably not the best!

With the recent scare I had, almost losing my phone.. one of the things that I am for sure doing more lately is figuring out where the holes are in my security stance. Not that the holes are big, but there are naturally going to be one or two of them that we know are ideal not to have, but we delay it for one reason or another. I'm not some super spy, but I just like to make myself a little more difficult, and thus less likely for someone to spend the effort on when there is far easier prey.

I was thinking one night, that I should change a password to something important. What I realized after thinking about it a little bit more.. is that I should NOT be doing this type of thing in the evening before bed! LOL you don't need to fuck it up like I fucked up my laptop a few months ago!

I know we all have those moments where we want to do something, and come up with a great idea! The best idea since sliced bread! Thankfully, as I've gotten older.. I've realized that it's not always best to act on impulsive thoughts like that. This can for sure be problematic sometimes, where I need to act much faster than I do, but in many other situations this has helped me quite a bit to stay out of trouble!

Of course I didn't change my password at night, a few minutes before bed. I'm glad I didn't though, because one ultra-stressful event in a few weeks period of time is enough for me lol, hell even one a year is a good thing!

This got me to think though.. how many decisions and situations do we get in as people, where if we just took a pause, and thought for a little bit longer, could we have avoided the negative situation? I know there are PLENTY like that! Hell I've thought of several myself! Some with more permanent impacts than others.. but still impacts.

I wonder what it is about us, where we act impulsive more than we should. Is it because of the technological world that we are engrossed in today? The news cycle is 24/7 and things come in and out at lightning speed. Is that affecting our decision making, where it reduces our thought processes and causes issues where we act more impulsive than people would 50 years ago? It's certainly an interesting thought.

Another avenue related to this, is the blue-light affect. The mafia famously realized when they were building Vegas that if they filled the room with incredibly bright, flashy blue-light focused devices, closed the windows and pumped in oxygen that they could keep people on the dopamine train for way longer than they ever would normally. What is the modern day equivalent to this? The fondle slab in your hand or next to you right now! Our phones are the most impactful, concentrated source of blue-light in our environment today!

Granted, I have made several steps to reducing my artificial blue-light exposure as much as I can, but there are certainly areas for improvement. Had I been blue-light poisoned, would I have made the same wise choice of NOT changing my password, and instead done it that night, potentially fucking up an account? It's hard to say, but I would like to think that it had an impact!

What about you, have you had a situation recently where you almost made a rash decision, but decided against it at the last minute? What was it? Let me know in the comments!

Every day out on the road is a test of patience and not carrying theu with retaliation when another vehicle nearly wrecks us. Rash decisions are common with road rage. 😉

Very timely reminder lol. I'm thinking of making a decision soon but it seems that my reasoning process has been hijacked by external stimuli to the point that it has pushed me to try make the decision as soon as possible. I know there are moments we need to act right now and decisively but this isn't one of them because I clearly haven't given much thought to it, at all.
