Retention, Can We Do Better? .:. Recap of Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.45 + HHHLive Show Recording (June 4, 2025)
Before taking a 3-week break, we had three #HHHLive shows in a row, and they were awesome! The last one we were discussing user retention on HIVE, and it was great to see people involved, sharing their opinions on why we have that issue and how we could do better... The turnout in shows is getting better and better, which is additional motivation for all of us! People CARE about HIVE, and they show it!

As I mentioned in the announcement post, the point wasn't to solve the issue, as it isn't that simple to do it, but rather to talk about it, make some tweaks in our everyday HIVE interaction, try to help out at places where we have the biggest influence... Retention isn't just a problem of big HIVE whales or Hive witnesses, it's OUR problem, of all of us...

The show was very engaging, and multiple people shared their thoughts in voice, and almost everyone else participated with their input in the chat channel! To be honest, I was so focused on not skipping any comments that I didn't realize how fast time was flying... It was a split second, and we were already over 1 hour! There is no way to write about everything, so I will keep this description short and leave it to you to check out the recording of the show that you can find under... If you have a chance to watch it, you can follow the chat during the show, but you can also just listen, as with any ordinary podcast! I have tried to read all the comments from the chat so that you can just listen...
- At the beginning of the show, I read a fantastic comment by @josediccus that he left on the announcement post:
I read a conversation somewhere, someone was trying to suggest some cool features that'll be good for Hive and they were quickly shut down by some users because they were new and hadn't earned the right to suggest anything. It was sad to see. This disparity is often displayed on the chain in some conversations about retention. I hope that someday we can agree more, than we actually disagree on important conversations
That was a good reminder that everyone's opinion counts... There are no more or less worthy opinions, and we should have an open mind for newbie suggestions in the same way as for some OG views...

Also, I shared my view regarding onboarding and retention as they are connected... How is someone onboarded, with a promise of what, what are their expectations, etc? When we know that information, we know how to guide new users to become successful Hivians and to enjoy their stay... The retention that we were talking about in the show was connected with the BLOGGING (Social Media) side of HIVE... Those Hivians who are here for Splinterlands, Rising Star, or some other apps are already guided by those apps, and they take care of the retention... But, on the blogging side, WE ARE THOSE who should take care of each other...
First in voice was @godfish, who shared his retention views... As we can't be everywhere, we should focus on the place where we are "the strongest", and those are our communities, our "virtual" surroundings... Creating an environment to retain people... Simple things that count a lot, for example, replying to the comments on your posts, creating more engagement and discussion...
@josediccus shared his views on retention and onboarding... He talked about how Web2 social media also changed over the years... A similar thing happened with HIVE, too, and we aren't in the same place where we were a few years ago! He noticed that HIVE isn't the only one with retention issues, many SM websites have that problem too... Also, other cryptos have that problem too... People are jumping from flower to flower, in search of an "ideal place"... We can do better, and we have room for improvement!

We had so many great ideas in the chat, and in one moment the interesting question surged... "Why did YOU stay on HIVE?" If we answer that question, maybe we could understand better newbies and their expectations!
Many participants answered it... @josediccus stayed for the community, @melinda010100 stayed as she got included and involved in Ecency, and others gave their inputs too... What connects us all is the COMMUNITY!
We got comments that the learning curve on HIVE is a bit complicated and that we need more guides for newbies... Immediately after that was said, the links with tutorials began to pop out in the chat! Check them out and share them with those in need:

We had 20 participants (including me) in the show this week!!! Thanks for participating, @nathalie-s, @borniet, @buttcoins, @duskobgd, @enraizar, @godfish, @friendlymoose, @josediccus, @jza, @melinda010100, @stresskiller, @mipiano, @palomap3, @sacra97, @stickupboys, @thekittygirl, @travoved, @txracer and @antisocialist! Thank you, guys and girls, for joining. I hope you had fun and learned something new about HIVE!
As always, we had an after-show where some new people joined, too! The show was over one hour long, and we had almost the same long after-show... We were talking about upcoming meetups in Aachen this August (organized by @detlev) and recently announced @BuzzParty that will be held next year in Alicante... Also, we were talking about spending HBD, POS terminals, etc. That part isn't recorded, so don't forget to stay after the show next time!

Thank you, guys and girls, once again! As a sign of appreciation, I will send some LEN tokens to all participants of the live show! You can pair them with LENM tokens, add liquidity to the diesel pool, and earn rewards! If you want to learn more about the project behind it, check out the @liotes account or visit the Liotes website... Of course, if you are not interested in it, you can sell tokens on the Hive-Engine market...
To encourage more people to come on the mic, I usually send additional ECENCY points for those sharing things in voice... This week, 100 POINTS goes to @godfish, @stresskiller, @txracer, and @josediccus, as they were sharing things on the mic! 😃
Special thanks goes to @melinda010100 and @good-karma for providing the space for the event!
Thank you for your time.

Thank you so much for organizing and hosting such an insightful event.. This is exactly the kind of content I’ve been eager to explore.. When I first joined, I only had a basic understanding of how to post a content, but as the days passed, I found myself with many more questions.. Thankfully, I came across some of your earlier posts, which really helped clarify things for me.. It’s been an incredibly valuable resource..
I’m also checking the links you've provided one by one so I don’t overwhelm myself 😆. It’s a lot to take in, but I’m excited to continue learning at a comfortable pace.. This event has been a great opportunity to expand my knowledge, and I’m eager to see where it takes me..
Great job everyone.. 👏👏
Oh, thank you very much for your kind words! 😍
It means a lot to hear that you found my earlier posts useful, and these shows too! 🙏
Thanks you.
Gracias por el espacio.
You are welcome! Always great to see you in the audience!

Thank you very much for your curation! Appreciated! 🙏
I thoroughly enjoy your shows, my favourite bear moderator! :))
Thanks for not muting me when I just start babbling :))
Hehehe... Thank you very much!
Btw. It's great to have you on the show! Since you became a regular, the show has become more dynamic, and I think people like it! 😃
The more speakers the merrier :))
I just love grass roots movements like this gathering and discussing progress and solutions on our blockchain. Some fantastic people and leaders in that group of attendees.
Listening to the recap right now and not pleased with the stupid notion that fresh opinions of new people are not valid. Such garbage as it is the new people who will provide the growth and retaining them will be key to hive becoming all we envision it to be.
I will have to check out this show live. Combing through all the text to discover the discord server link now too. ;)
Thank you very much! It's great to hear that you liked the show! 🙏
So lucky to have these awesome people participating and adding value to the discussion... And according to comments, it looks like we are spreading some useful info!
This hurt!
In my opinion this was one of the most interesting shows you've done so far. It's great to see users from large and small accounts showing up and all opinions being heard. As you say, we all care about Hive. We are Hive. Have a good rest!
You guys are the best! It's great to see the number of participants growing, and the value that everyone adds to the show is tremendous! 😍
This kind of meetup is exactly what we need on HIVE 👏
Glad to hear that you liked it!
Thanks for the shootout and it was good to finally talk on the show as well. Thanks for the eccency points, and I hope I can also attend subsequent ones too, enjoy your break/work and come back refreshed, I think there's a lot of time..

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 40/60) Liquid rewards.
It was great to have you! It's a pleasure to share the stage with others, as we can contribute much more when we share! 💪
of course hive community is great, it's a free censor free environment, yet it's not a toxic endless flame war like web2
There are some toxicity here, but those are isolated cases... hehehe... I'm so proud of folks that are joining these shows, as you can see that they care about HIVE, and they like to help others!
It was a great discussion. I think it had a lot of info, and I agree that alot of people come here for the money. The people who stick around tend to stick for the community. I also think its a no brainer to reply to comments on your own posts. There are problems, but I don't think they are that large though.
I suppose it's mostly about the point of view and the reason for joining HIVE... Yes, HIVE has a learning curve, but newbies sometimes overcomplicate things too... Like with replying to comments, being yourself, and genuinely interacting with other people...
Great topic! It's got to be the community for sure! Of course there are many other personal factors, such as learning because social media + crypto is such a new concept, also it's just amazing that I can generate real money from this, I never ever thought this was possible before knowing Hive, and finally, I am also curious to see where I could go and what I could achieve with this account.

All in all, compared with other social media, many of those who stayed are still here because of the VALUE that they got from other Hivians... Also, it's great to "return" the value to others... Community feeling, learning new things (like you said), and while doing all that, earning additional income!
