Something fishy

While they were on holiday in Zihuatanejo, Mexico my kids got some great photos of this Pacific Spotted Eagle Ray. They are relatively rare where compared to other Ray species, so it was rather exciting that they were able to get this photo. This Ray is considered near threatened, but not yet on the endangered list.

They are a non-aggressive species that is not dangerous to humans, except for their defensive venomous barb located near the base of the tail. They are timid and will swim away if you get too close.

This random fish just happened to swim past and was fair game for a photo, too. It's difficult to identify, but I liked the photo!

Zihuatanejo was a fishing village before it gained fame in The Shawshank Redemption movie, and it appears that fishing is still good there. They are hosting a fishing tournament. If you hurry you may still be able to get in!

And this last photo because it made me laugh.

Hi @melinda010100, very nice photos.
You know, once I caught a stingray, and then, listening to the fishermen, I put the liver in the pan and took out a lot of oil.
And that oil is used for health, for immune system support and joint health.
I remembered when I saw the image of the stripe in the water.
Happy weekend.

I didn't know they were good for fish oil. That's interesting.

That is such a beautiful fish for sure. love the pattern of the ray.
But I love the beach more, with that white sand and not many tourist to be seen on the beach, must be great to spend time there.

They are great photographers! Even their phone photos are beautiful.
Fish photos are not something that I can capture very often, so I really loved these.

Very fun photos 👍 I have never seen a spotted ray. Fishing boats pulled up on the beach photos are also very good. I checked out Zihuatanejo on a map. Its much further south than I expected. What a beautiful place 🙂

Cool! I have seen a few of them before, they pretty rays. They had some pretty good water clarity while they were down there. But that pile of fish just sitting out there probably didn't smell really good...

Zorros Sports Bar apparently has a good sense of humor too! lol

What a spectacular place!
I've also had the opportunity to see manta rays in their natural habitat, and I find them beautiful.
What a wonderful end to the day you had!
Cheers!

Wow, this fish kind of looks like a kaiju creature from the Godzilla franchise.
