Restaurant choices

The town I live in has 3 exits off the Interstate highway and is filled with fast food burger and chicken chain restaurants. It is one of those towns designed to be the perfect pitstop for travelers.
While the convenience of a quick burger or fried chicken is great for a road trip, living there can sometimes feel like you're surrounded by "Anywhere, USA" architecture. Every exit off any highway basically looks the same and unless you explore further away from the highway and venture into the old downtown you miss the personality and history of the town.

Several of the indepent restaurants here are Mexican restaurants. This is the most popular ethnic food in the country, and remarkably, 70% of all Mexican restaurants are independent.

La Parrilla" translates literally to "the grill" in Spanish and is brought to the table hot and sizzling! Meats, seafood, and vegetables are prepared over an open flame

Tres Leche cake.

We do have a couple of Chinese restaurants, one is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Wisconsin that opened in 1922, and just this week a new Indian restaurant opened. It is the only one in town offering Indian food and I am excited to try it. There are also several options for pizza.
But I do love Mexican food and am glad we have these family-owned businesses that have become staple alternatives to the interstate chains!

Living in Seattle area I find that we are too spoiled by great seafood and wonderful restaurant choices...

Mmmm seafood! That is sadly lacking in the Midwest.

Well, the oceans are a little far for the Midwest...

I like family-run restaurants, and ethnic food has its own charm.

I didn't know that 70% of Mexican restaurants are independent; that's an interesting fact. I thought franchises like Taco Bell had more control over this type of restaurant.

We have Taco Bell and Qdoba chains but several independently owned restaurants that provide a nice dining experience. A couple even have mariachi nights.

Thanks for the information.

Thinking about it, in the tropics and parts of South America, mariachis (both as music and cultural expressions) have a significant presence; they can be hired for everything from birthdays and wedding proposals to anniversaries.

I think many of us have been influenced by 20th-century Mexican cinema. I believe that the Mexican film industry was the most internationalized of its kind among Spanish-speaking industries in Latin America.

Hello👋 @melinda010100. What a beautiful Indian restaurant, I'm a fan of these types of colorful works on the chairs, paintings, and spectacular decor.

Speaking of the delightful sight of the dishes you ordered, they must be a treat, especially the dessert, "oh my goodness" 😍. It's good to know that many Mexican restaurants are independent, which is good for immigrants.

Greetings from Cuba 🇨🇺 my friend and have an excellent weekend!! 😊☺️🙏

There is a federal highway that runs through my city, and several thousand different cars pass through it every day, both large and small. However, there are no fast-food restaurants for travelers. The only places to buy burgers, hot dogs, and coffee are gas stations. I have traveled through our Kirov region from south to north and from east to west. There are no fast-food restaurants on the highway, but there are full-service cafes where you can purchase a complete meal.
The situation is similar in the surrounding regions. Is this a good or a bad thing?
