HOME RESPONSIBILITIES #262

The majority of people in Africa are of the opinion that a woman is meant to take care of the home, and when you see men doing it, they tend to regard them as weak. But lately a lot of people are beginning to come to terms that it is okay for both the couple to be responsible for the welfare of the home. However, there is something I see wrong with the setting of home responsibilities and that is the 50/50 setting. I strongly believe that people who adhere to this setting will have problems especially when one for some reason doesn’t do their part.

In my house, I tell everyone (As the head) to do what they can, fix the problems they can and ask for help when necessary. I do this because in my house we all have one thing in common, and that is the fact that we love a clean home. It can be tasking though when only one person is doing it, so I say anyone should do it as long as they are available (Myself included) Although I am not always available, I try to not sit idle when someone is working while I am present.

I believe that the home responsibility is everyone's responsibility and anyone with the time should do the chore. We all provide as much as we can. As the head I decide how we all spend the money coming into the home. I also provide the most, but that is because I can and if anyone else can provide more, it won’t make me reduce how much I contribute, and it just means more money for the house. This way no one feels too worked up because we have all agreed we are giving as much as we can and no one is bearing the weight alone. I think it is just a matter of understanding.
