Signs from the universe

Omens exist all over the world, but it looks as if they exist more in Africa, especially in Nigeria. Although some are true, others are just myths to instill fear in our minds or bodies.

While we were growing up, our parents told us that if dogs cry in the middle of the night until daybreak, that is a bad omen and something terrible was going to happen. I usually don't believe in it.Until my national youth service year in Ondo State.

That's when I found out that it's not a myth but it's a true talk. There is this old woman that lives across my lodge then.She was very friendly with everybody, including dogs. One day she fell sick, and we, as corpers, took turns to go and take care of her as she doesn't have any children.

One midnight that's how all the dogs in my environment were crying seriously from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. before they stopped. By the morning time, we heard that the old woman had died and all the dogs were sad; they refused to eat and none played around.

One omen I believe still works for me is one that I disregarded, almost costing my life. I was going to attend a friend's mother's burial in a neighboring village. Since it was going to start at eleven o'clock, I decided to sleep for a short while. However, I woke up because of a phone call.I found out that it was late, so I decided to show myself but as I stepped out, my leg hit a stone. It was painful. I kept moving and still hit my leg again, this time I was bleeding on the toe.

If you hit your leg like that, especially your right leg, it means there is danger where you are going. I ignored it and entered bike, not so far from my house. I had a terrible accident; everybody thought that I died, but I survived with just bruises and I didn't attend that burial again, but was hospitalized instead.

It was on the hospital bed that I remembered all the things that happened to me, with this sign that I have been ignoring and how bad each one had been. Since then, anytime my leg hits a stone, if I want to go out, i will cancel, I won't go again. Yes, there are omens that are good signs and some that are bad, just have a good discernment spirit.
