10 Efforts Made to Move the Needle + A Power πŸ†™

A Taboo

In yesterday's post I took the time and space to approach the taboo topic of depression β€” my own. No big deal, no major concern, but ya know. πŸ˜•

My share was in a bite sized post. I even showed my "depressy face." In so doing, it actually lifted the pain a bit.

No Vulnerability Hangover

When I got up this morning, feeling more like ⭐️⭐️⭐️ instead of ⭐️⭐️, I was surprised! I thought I'd open my eyes to a whopper of a vulnerability hangover. But nope.

The thought occurred to me, "what if I tried to do some tiny, easy things for myself today that might add to this improvement?" I had no idea what I could come up with, because the depressed brain doesn't think ahead that well, does it? But I decided to take one baby step at a time, make a list and report back.

That's my list in the photo above. One thing I note looking at it is my writing. For me, that is truly ragged. My handwriting and architectural lettering is typically stunning. It's something I love about myself. But looking at the list, my assessment is, "oh my, I can see the depression in my handwriting. The hand don't lie, yo."

Nonetheless, I'm proud of the list because it shows self kindness, gradual effort, and that am trying to assist myself. So here are the ten things I did by the end of the day in an effort to move the needle to improve my mood some more.

Caveat

Before I describe my efforts, let me just say that I am no one's good example. So what I try probably may not make a hill of beans difference to the next person. I'm only sharing what I tried to do myself a favour.

My Things I Did to Move the Needle on Depression

  1. I gave myself credit for admitting to feeling depression in a simple Hive post.
  2. I properly got ready for bed. I doing do everything I needed to, back 90% was fine.
  3. I set a sleep timer for 9 hours. No alarms-they're bad for anxiety & depression.
  4. Once I was awake, I asked myself, "what would I like to see happen next?" I noticed it was raining the most perfect therapeutic sound rain. I could see hitting and flowing down the window in my bedroom. It was so pleasant. So I set the sleep timer for a bit longer, and fell back listening to the rain.
  5. When it was time to rise, I got a glass of sparking water and drank it while I ran a bubble bath.
  6. I got myself fully reading for the day.
  7. I went "down my local" Palace pub and had Gammon steak, egg, peas, and salad. It was the best meal I've ever eaten there. πŸ˜ƒ
  8. I got back to the flat in time to join @creativeworkhour's Cuppa Joe. I took my laptop into the kitchen and made my own cuppa while I hung out with friends.
  9. During Creative Work Hour and the second hour, Practice Not Perfect, I worked on the moth infestation problem in the apartment. Just one little thing at a time, so not to get overwhelmed or frustrated over it.
  10. No matter I long I've worked at the computer all day, I made a point to get up, walk around, refill my cuppa, and kill more moths! πŸ’€

Gammon Steak with Grilled Pineapple, Fried Egg, Mint Peas, and Salad at The Palace, Leeds

Here is proof positive that I accomplished number 7 on the list. I can't tell you how good it tasted, except to say that it was as though the universe gifted me a thoroughly pleasurable meal. I'm grateful!

Thanks for coming by to read my progress.
I'm feeling better already. A definite 3.5 ⭐️s!

Since it's 27 January, I power up these 27 HIVE πŸ’ͺ🏽

Much love! πŸ₯°

So glad you got your A gammon at the palace! Cuppa in the morning and the local for lunch? You’ve gone native!

"Gammon steak, egg, peas, and salad"

OMG, that looks/sounds like a wonderful meal! πŸ˜‹

"kill more moths"

Vacuum cleaner with a hose. Get bunches of 'em, all at once, seriously! πŸ˜‰
I did that with a Fruit Fly invasion once, worked like a charm!
If you don't have a vacuum with a hose, borrow one or rent one.
Just make a sacrifice to honor Mothra before you begin. 😁

It was incredible food! When @drmelanie visited me in London & Leeds for a week, I brought her to The Palace first thing.

Her late Mother was Scottish and so she adored the authentic feel of THE NORTH.

The moth problem has strained my mental wellness. Someone is coming to β€œlook” this afternoon. β€œLooking” sounds like stalling, and we’re past that.

I’ll make arrangements to follow your suggestion, @thekittygirl. I can report back at #pypt. πŸͺ°

Every time I see a unique post, I am amazed by this place! I suppose that's so hard to explain, or describe HIVE to "outsiders"... It's something different, something personal to everyone... For some, it's a place where they share their daily stuff, and others publish news about the topics they are passionate about... Some do posts as their personal diary, to have it written in the blockchain forever...

Some do it for the reason as you did it... For "therapeutic" reasons, to help themselves and keep themselves accountable, to see those small steps that make a difference on a larger scale, to check out the old posts and see how big a journey they made... In the end, to share their troubles with others and help them out, too!

It's not easy to write about things that many are scared to write and to admit they have too... Thanks for doing it! It helps you, and it helps others, too!

Honestly, I thought this was a waste of time post. The hero image is ratty and my grammar is a disaster.

That’s a special feature of depression. It warps your judgement. Things that are fine β€œfeel” like a problem. Things that don’t really matter, seem consequential.

Because Hive is not a centralized platform for commerce, it still has almost a Web1 humanity to it.

I believe we as pioneers in the Web3 space that lives for human connection have yet to see the extent of what we have to offer the world to make it a better, safer place.

Thank you for your generous kindness, @ph1102.

Hey, maybe I still have a shot at that vulnerability hangover with this post bundled up with @ourpick! 😜

and my grammar is a disaster.

Lol... How do you think I feel about my grammar after checking my posts? πŸ˜‚ Always hated English grammar... hmmm... as a matter of fact, I don't like Spanish nor Hungarian too... πŸ˜‚

Because Hive is not a centralized platform for commerce, it still has almost a Web1 humanity to it.

I never thought about that... But, I do remember that I made some strong connections with other people at the beginning of the Internet...
