Hi movie lovers, it’s been a minute.
Today I’ll be doing a movie review on a very emotional movie that got me really tearing up.
Now you all know that there are some movies you watch and you don’t just get entertained but they actually touch your heart, make you reflect and even change your perspective on certain things.

Like Stars on Earth is one of those movies. I promise you, it’s not just a film about a child and school. No not at all, it’s actually a story about being seen, being understood and the power of one person believing in you when others don’t.

PLOT SUMMARY
The story is about a boy called Ishaan Awasthi. He is an 8 year old boy who struggled with reading and writing. While other kids solved maths problems and memorized their spellings effortlessly, Ishaan found himself lost in a planet where letters danced and floated on the pages of his book.
Everyone including his parents and his teachers called him lazy, saying he wasn’t trying hard enough. Most times he got teased by his classmates.

His parents eventually got frustrated by Ishaan’s academic performance and his behavior and so they sent him to a boarding school.
When he got there, he became so lonely, he felt misunderstood and truly heartbroken. Ishaan finally withdrew himself completely with his world eventually turning grey. That’s when Ram Shankar Nikumbh, the new art teacher, came into the scene.

Nikumbh, the new art teacher immediately saw what others couldn’t see. He saw that Ishaan wasn’t dumb or lazy but that he actually suffered from dyslexia. It is a learning disorder that makes reading and writing so challenging. But Ishaan was gifted in art, with a strong and powerful imagination; he was just too creative.
Nikumbh then took it upon himself not to just teach Ishaan but to fight for him and help him rediscover his joy and confidence.

He encouraged Ishaan and through his special teaching methods and a deep emotional connection, there was a beam of hope.

The ending part of the movie was a heartwarming art competition, where Ishaan’s talent finally shined in front of everyone. His parents, especially his father, finally began to understand him better, and his teachers learned to see him in a new light.

MOVIE REVIEW

What makes Like Stars on Earth so special is not just the storytelling but the message it passes across. Sometimes, it takes an unseemly person to come into your life and change everything completely. Nikumbh was not a strict teacher that came on board with a standard curriculum. He was entirely different from the other teachers and it was this difference that brought salvation to Ishaan. We all need someone who sees us and believes in us even when we’ve given up on ourselves.

The movie also makes an important point about parenting. Parents often compare children, thinking they’re motivating them but not knowing that they are causing damage to their self-esteem. Ishaan wasn’t meant to be like his older brother, and that’s actually okay. No child is a photocopy of each other. They each have their own strengths and their own stars waiting to shine. This film teaches us to slow down and really see our children for who they really are.

Of a truth, this movie really carries a lot of deep emotions, like I literally bawled my eyes out; but to bring warmth and balance, it also has its fair share of humorous and happy moments.
Nikumbh, the art teacher, brought such a refreshing energy to the classroom. His first day, for example, where he sang and danced with the kids in the “Bum Bum Bole” song, was so humorous and full of pure joy. Another funny scene was when he mimicked a strict teacher, exaggerating his tone and style; honestly, this brought so much laughter to the classroom.

Like Stars on Earth is not just a movie but a strong reminder that behind every struggle is a story, behind every silent child is a voice waiting to be heard and sometimes, all it takes is one person who chooses to see beyond the surface.
I’ll gladly give this movie a 10/10 since it appeals to the very core of human nature.
