CHESS~A Lover’s Review
Hi movie lovers…it’s the weekend!
How are y’all feeling today? Oh well, I’m feeling good and quite mushy right now.
No, don’t worry. There’s no “Odogwu” (fine rich guy) in my corner, just the Odogwu I saw in the movie I watched last night.
The movie was all shades of humor, emotions and butterflies. My parents had to bang the door a few times to keep my voice down as my laughter was all over the room.
The movie's name is Chess and apparently, it has been on my watchlist on YouTube for a while now. The cover image just didn’t look too appealing.
So yesterday after a rough day, I decided to just feed my eyes and I randomly chose the movie.
Oh, Bambam is such a beauty. I love love love love herrrr. I love how she interprets every role given to her. She’s so soft spoken and she’s so humorous!! Like, I could laugh all day just by hearing her speak.
Ahh, let’s get into the movie already…
So Ifunanya is a young lady who’s getting to her thirties…
She just clocked 29 and you know what they say? 29 and desperate.
She desperately needs to be in a relationship. She just wants to feel loved and cherished you know?
That’s every lady’s dream so I don’t blame her. She falls into the hands of different men who just want a taste of her money and sex.
After getting stood up on her birthday again this year, she cries out her heart in the shower and the next morning she heads over to work looking so casually dressed. She’s surprised to see everyone dressed to the nines, looking all formal.
She knows that’s not the usual way. They are a PR company and they really don’t care about how they dress to the office. She enquires from her best friend Blessing who tells her that there is a new boss in town.
The CEO’s son just took over the company and he’s up for no nonsense dress sense. They get to meet and she’s introduced to him.
Next thing I see is that they get a bit close after closing a deal and for the second time, sees her getting entangled with men not on her level. So, he begins teaching her the game of chess and how she is supposed to be the Queen and not the pawn. So many life rules.
She takes them and now she’s seen to be getting her self-respect and not falling for rogues in the name of men.
From there Mr Adams her new boss, introduces her to his daughter and they become friends. Due to the fact that he couldn’t communicate with his daughter freely, he used ifunanya as a bridge to reach out to his daughter.
Meanwhile, during this time, she had started falling in love with Adams and it was during this period that he opened up to her that he lost his wife during the birth of his daughter and it still haunts him hence his distance from his daughter.
When I thought the love was gonna blossom, Adams just shows up one morning at work and scolds Ifunanya in front of everyone in the office for attempting to arrange his office.
She felt so bad and removed him from her heart.
Ifunanya finally gets to meet the man she thinks is the perfect one for her. He ticked all her boxes and even respected the fact that he is a client who is proposing a deal and waits for the deal to be finalized before he asks her out. They date for a while and when they finally think they are getting somewhere, Adams shows up and tells her that she doesn’t know how to control her emotions and that she just loves being a pawn. Oh, that triggers her so much as she bawls out her eyes and drops her resignation letter the next day.
Plot twist, after a night of beautiful intimacy with her newfound love, he ghosts her. She honestly thinks he’s in danger as that is a strange behavior from him. Then came a knock at her door, she opens up, and boom she meets the wife and mother of her newfound love. She’s literally heartbroken that her mom who desperately wants her to get married comforts her so emotionally.
Adams shows up at her house and after so much hesitation from her, they finally become an item.
MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS
Honestly, this movie is all shades of amazing. I literally loved the voice-overs from Ifunanya. It actually led me through the story and was all shades of funny including where her head voices would show up just to say what her mouth couldn’t say. And I loved how the movie transitioned from this to that to that.
You know it wasn’t your regular “employee falls in love with boss and they become a thing”. All the obstacles and plot twists were so amazing as they formed the climax of the story.
My rating for this movie is a solid 8/10.
It’s a must-watch guys

Such an interesting movie, I have watched it too. I love that they finally fall in love.
Ikrr! The movie just makes me wanna rewatch and rewatch
The storyline of this movie seems really really cheesy and romantic. I haven’t watched any of Bambam’s movies but I think she should be awarded queen of swoon worthy romance atp. Reviews on her movies are always finding their way to me. Maybe it’s a sign for me to watch it, lol.
Beautiful review btw💕
