Why do people in the UK drive on the left-hand side while queuing on escalators on the right?

Warum fährt man in UK auf der linken Seite, während man sich auf Rolltreppen rechts anstellt?

Etwas verwirrend in UK ist, dass die Autos auf der linken Spur fahren. Dachte, dass die Leute auf dem Gehsteig ebenfalls links gehen, aber das ist nicht einheitlich der Fall und in der U-Bahn steht man sogar rechts auf Rolltreppen. Ist ziemlich verwirrend das Ganze. Wusste auch nicht, auf welcher Seite man den Leuten in UK ausweichen soll, rechts oder links?

Es ist aber kein Zufall, dass die Mehrheit der Länder auf der rechten Seite fährt, aber es gibt immer noch einige Länder wie UK, Australien oder Japan, die links fahren.

Ursprünglich ist man auf Pferden auf der linken Seite geritten, da die meisten Menschen von links auf das Pferd aufsteigen und man das aus Sicherheitsgründen vom Straßenrand und nicht von der Wegesmitte tun möchte. Reiter trugen auch Schwerter auf der linken Seite. Von rechts aufzusteigen wäre mit einem langen Schwert gar nicht so einfach möglich.

Das hat alles damit zutun, dass die meisten Menschen (90%) Rechtshänder sind. Es gibt also tatsächlich auch eine evolutionäre Erklärung dafür.

Mit dem Aufkommen von zweispurigen Fahrzeugen und Automobilen, musste die Fahrspur allerdings von links auf rechts gewechselt werden, da es intuitiver wirkte, das Lenkrad auf der linken Seite zu platzieren und als Fahrer ebenfalls von links in das Automobil einzusteigen.

Das haben die meisten Länder auf der Welt so umgesetzt, außer UK, Commonwealth-Länder wie Australien und Japan.

Aber ganz konsistent ist es in UK auch nicht. Leute gehen rechts auf dem Gehsteig und stehen rechts auf der Rolltreppe oder Stiegen. Auch dafür gibt es eine Erklärung, die wiederum damit zu tun hat, dass 90% Rechtshänder sind, und man sich rechts daher besser anhalten kann.

Insgesamt denke ich, dass es für die meisten Menschen mehr Sinn macht auf der rechten Seite zu fahren und zu gehen und das Lenkrad links zu haben, so wie das die meisten Länder umgesetzt haben. Denke, das ist kein Zufall, dass es die meisten Länder so umgesetzt haben.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Verwirrt euch das Linksfahren in UK auch, wenn man es nicht gewohnt ist? Denkt ihr, dass es einmal geändert wird?

Something confusing in the UK is that cars drive in the left lane. Thought that people on the sidewalk also walk on the left, but that's not uniformly the case and on the tube you even stand on the right on escalators. The whole thing is quite confusing. Also didn't know which side to sidestep people in the UK, right or left?

It's no coincidence that the majority of countries drive on the right, but there are still some countries like the UK, Australia or Japan that drive on the left.

Originally, horses were ridden on the left side, as most people mount the horse from the left and for safety reasons you want to do this from the side of the road and not from the middle of the road. Riders also carried swords on the left side. Mounting from the right would not be so easy with a long sword either.

This has to do with the fact that most people (90%) are right-handed. So there is indeed an evolutionary explanation for that.

However, with the advent of two-lane vehicles and automobiles, the lane had to be changed from left to right, as it seemed more intuitive to place the steering wheel on the left side and enter the car from the left as well as a driver.

Most countries in the world have implemented it this way, with the exception of the UK, Commonwealth countries such as Australia, and Japan.

But it's not entirely consistent in the UK either. People walk on the right side of the sidewalk and stand on the right side of the escalator or stairs. There's an explanation for this too, which again has to do with the fact that 90% are right-handed, so it's easier to hold on on the right.

Overall, I think it makes more sense for most people to drive and walk on the right and have the steering wheel on the left, which is how most countries have implemented it. I don't think it's a coincidence that most countries have done it this way.
