New EU Regulation: Cars in the EU must now beep whenever the speed limit is exceeded

avatar
(Edited)

English

Cars in the EU must now beep if you exceed the speed limit.

The EU's General Safety Regulation II obliges car manufacturers in the EU to install a whole range of additional assistance and monitoring systems.

Cars must also carry a black box, permanently monitor the driver's drowsiness, keep in lane, apply emergency braking and integrate a standardized interface for a future alcohol test system.

Overall, the trend is towards permanent monitoring and restriction of freedom.

The problem with all these systems is also that the recognition of the current speed limit is not 100% reliable.

Sometimes the systems do not recognize the limits correctly or are based on incorrect, out-of-date data.

Incidentally, the warning tone can be deactivated temporarily, but must be reactivated automatically each time the system is restarted.

On the other hand, some systems can actually contribute to road safety and thus prevent carelessness and accidents.

But these intrusive warning signals feel more like incapacitating drivers and are not necessarily helpful to the popularity of the EU.

What do you think of the new EU regulation? Does it go too far or is monitoring the speed limit and the driver's fitness using AI sensible?

Every day closer and closer to being just like wall-e
He will be loved by this super sensitive and delicate generation that is offended by everything that does not know how to believe as a person and work hard....

I don't think it will be long before self-driving cars appear, so this regulation will quickly become obsolete. But it is clear that population control is the EU's number one priority.

The new EU regulation seems like a mixed bag to me 🤔. Yes safety is important but constant monitoring, braaaaaaahhh, that's super invasive I’m concerned about the reliability and accuracy of these systems too man

Conspiracy mode 😵‍💫
They don't want us to control all our movements and implant us micro reptilian chip with snails.
(why snails? Because you have to be all paranoid 🤣)
The truth is that this regulation is very intrusive and it looks like a more and more totalitarian surveillance.
What worries me more than a similar system in China but much worse.

That's why I prefer older cars with none of that BS!

The EU presented this to seem like a good idea with something quite relevant to back it up even though we know it doesn’t make sense😅

Another dumb law that I pray to god stays just as an idea and won't get acted upon.

If my car beeps whenever I'm over the speed limit, I'm getting distracted while already driving faster than whats allowed.

Well, I think it's for safety and it's a good thing.

It’s a good idea but for their interest, lol

That's way too intrusive on personal freedoms... Next thing you know they will automatically sending you fines for exceeding the speed limit just by what the vehicle reports back to them. A drowsiness alarm that keeps you alert isn't a bad idea, but I don't want that information recorded.

wow, some unneeded extra anoyances i think, but i guess it can help also. :)

Im for the new regulation as it helps create less accidents. Generally, the speed limit should be in moderate / normal speed.

I don't like it. It sounds like an overreach if the system malfuctions, you will have a beeping car. I don't think it's a good idea at all.

I feel like these could be distractions to driving and can make it more dangerous for people who don't speed on the road to being with.

And who is going to pay for these systems ? Car owners of course.

I think this is stupid and I hope, really hope it doesn't go too far in the EU regulations
