Worms Protested, Flood Responded: My Hilarious Rainy Market Adventure

Navigating Lagos floods this season is one task a lot of people can't escape from but deal with the natural phenomena. I can't agree less that the cloud has been celebrating its birthday this days and giving out the only thing it has in excess, lol. It sounds very funny, but it's a better way to describe the type of situation we find ourselves in this season.

I think it's too late for me to go back; otherwise, I should have consider relocating from Lagos island to another state. To survive in some part of Lagos Island nowadays, it makes more sense that I start studying weather updates and track when there will be consistent rainfall to enable me to position myself better to face the flood reality. Here, once we have three days of consistent rainfall, forget it; the road will turn to a flood. There will be no access unless you wear rain boots to swim through the water and go wherever you are going.

Most people don't even risk their car inside the kind of flood that happens now; they'd rather pack their cars in their homes and find their way out. It's majorly bike men who risk it but charge exorbitant prices to cross people over the water.

I had a funny experience on my quest to avoid the flood. It happened that we had consistent rainfall for 4 days without stopping. Like from morning till night and all through the night, it rained cats and dogs, scorpions and millipedes, elephants and hippopotamuses—just name it, lolz. My people, I didn't have enough food at home to survive these rainy birthdays, and you know, I can't take excuses from my stomach.

In fact,the worms were already gathering for a clan meeting in my belly over how I am starving them, and the chief worm also complained of how I have fed them with junk, which they weren't used to, hahaha ...So I decided to visit the market with the whole flood and buy natural food stuff instead of junk to avoid the rod of correction from those worms inside my belly, lolz.

At first, I was skeptical about these market men and women being available at the market because the rain had no type when I searched in my dictionary,lol.. I was surprised to find out that those market sellers were still hustling their way out to sell stuff inside the pool of water during those days of consistent rainfall, and so I was set to embark on the journey to visit the market; if only I had a boat, it would have been better...lol.

Without rainfall and those floods on the road, I was supposed to pay just ₦200 to get to the bus stop, but the bike man charged me ₦1,000 for the same distance. It's alright, I jumped inside the bike and didn't stop shouting at the guy to be careful because my life has no spare oo, lolz. You don't want to imagine what happened inside those dirty floods, my lawd!

The bike rider somehow missed it; there used to be a dip hole on one part of the road, and because he couldn't have a clear view due to the level of water, he drove past the hole, and that was how we both swam inside the flood. The bike got stuck and stopped moving. I was struggling not to fall completely inside the water, but I couldn't control my pams; the food swept it off, and I lost my pams to the flood. It carried it far away, and before I could say Jack, my pams were nowhere to be found.

That was the end of my market trip because, obviously, I can't go with my bare foot. I had to carefully swim the water back to my home and continued with my junk food until we had clear weather and the whole waterlogged area dried up.

I wouldn't forget in a hurry how those worms dealt with me, but it's fine; at least I am living to tell the story of this rain drama and its effect on my belly within the days,hehehe
