Hair braiding doesn't hurt??

Today, exactly in the afternoon while I was attending to some work, a client walked in and I was surprised by his new look—specifically, his head. He had his hair braided. And yes, he looked fine, but what my mind went to immediately was the pain he must have endured and still ensuring. Even as I type this, I imagine my own head being braided and I can feel those sharp pains. I wonder how ladies—and even the guys that plait their hair—feel comfortable having their heads pinned in pain, yet they make it look so easy, like it’s not painful at all.

"Omo! This thing is not hurting you?" I asked him while looking at his head and noticing how the flesh on his skull was pulled up tightly to fasten with the hair.

"It doesn’t hurt at all. It’s you that’s looking at it that way. If it hurt, ladies wouldn’t be doing it and guys wouldn’t be joining them either," he responded.

I went ahead to imagine my own hair being braided, and I shook my head immediately to skip the thought, because I can’t plait my hair for any reason. I know I wouldn’t be able to withstand the pain, because I still remember the level of pain I felt back in the day when I was at home and my younger siblings would play with my hair by plaiting it with thread. That thing can be extremely painful.

Up till today, no matter what people say, I don’t believe that braiding one’s hair is not painful. I have seen people who, after making their hair, would have their heads hang ‘structurally’ on their necks due to the intense pain. Some of them would even need to hold their heads up with their hands, and whenever they want to turn, they’d have to turn like that Aloe Vera advert guy.

Okay, maybe making hair is not actually painful and I’m just the only one who goes crazy when strands of my hair are being dragged. To the ladies and guys that braid their hair and are reading this—don’t you feel hurt whenever your hair is pulled?

I’m yet to understand the magic behind it, especially how you guys don’t feel pain while having your hair braided.
