Proper Care of Beans, Continued Groundnut Harvest

Hello Hive

Happy Sunday to everyone and a happy new month as well. We have continued with our groundnut harvest yesterday and I can tell you that it has been both sweet and bitter. It has been sweet because there is our groundnuts here, very tasty that everyone has been eating this from the farm, passerbyers too also stop by to pick some nuts to eat which makes me see how much people love groundnuts. The bitter part is the stress of harvest. We spent more than 12hrs in the farm yesterday and arrived home at about 8pm in the evening.

It was a bit difficult to find transportation to bring our goods to town. There are no cab(taxi🚕) in this town like before, all we have now are tricycles that people use as means of transportation and these tricycles are really very weak and not strong enough to carry the weight of the nuts we have harvested. Eventually we got home and we are yet to harvest the entire groundnut still.

Having Harvested some groundnuts you can see that we are still left with beans in the same farm. We have carried out mixed cropping on the farm planting both groundnuts and Beans. This is what we have done with majority of the farms where we have planted our crops.

In the previous farm where we have planted both beans and Groundnuts, the Groundnuts in that farm got spoilt and didn't produce any food for us meanwhile the beans is doing absolutely fine. It has even produced some green beans ready for consumption.

Now coming to this other farm in another location this groundnuts did produce some nuts for us as you can see here

While the beans didn't produce anything at all, it is barely struggling to survive.

Having taking out the groundnuts from the beans we took out some time to also clear out weeds and anything that can affect the growth of the beans. By now the beans ought to have produced series of flowers but we are just barely seeing a few tiny germinating pods here

There has not been a single rain since the last two weeks that ended December and we are not sure if there will be any other rain again. A single downpour would have keep the ground wet once more time to enhance the growth of this beans.

We have been making enquires as to why this beans isn't producing well. We tried planting different specie of beans on different farm and in different location. One particular crops in one location will do well while that same specie of crops or another variety of thesame crop in another farm will not do well.
We are still and will continue taking care of all our farms and crops to see how much food we can gather.

It has been a hectic day yesterday and I feel so much body ache everywhere, we would be at home today to get some rest before planning for tomorrow's work. This is how busy it can get during harvest periods.

That part about no rain since late December hit me, beans really need that one good shower to kick off pod set :( Clearing weeds was smart, and if you have dry leaves or grass, a light mulch around the base can slow evaporation and keep the so'il cooler. Sometimes the same seed acts different across plots, micro climate is a sneaky factor, my numbers brain can't even keep up and it's funny to. Please rest those muscles today, the work will be their tomorrow and you’ll get through it :)
