In fact, by now I’m smart enough to give myself one to three hours of free time at the end of my day. Yes, I know: cheeky! During that time, after @RahiPro triggered me here so hard, I started creating an audio book.

Tatsächlich bin ich mittlerweile so clever und nehme mir am Ende meines Tages auch ein bis drei Stunden Freizeit. Ja, ich weiß: frech! Innerhalb dessen habe ich aber begonnen, nachdem mich @RahiPro hiermit so hart getriggert hat, ein Audiobuch zu erstellen.

My Audio Book:

Long story short: I made music in the past, haven’t produced anything for a long time, Rahi triggered me, I had the idea to do something similar... Thought about what I could present in audio form, developed a rough plot, looked for samples, recorded a few takes. And in the end put it all together. At least the first episode.

Each episode would have a length of 3 to 5 minutes. Maybe 10 minutes sometimes, if it makes sense for that particular episode. Of course, the episodes are not random, but tell a story. I would release the episodes step by step. And once all episodes are finished, I would certainly put everything together again.

Mein Audiobuch:

Lange Geschichte, kurz verpackt: früher schon Musik gemacht, lange nichts mehr produziert, Rahi hat mich getriggert, ich hatte die Idee etwas ähnliches zu machen... Mir überlegt was ich per Audio darstellen kann, groben Plot entwickelt, Samples gesucht, ein paar Aufnahmen gemacht. Und am Ende zusammengebaut. Zumindest die erste Episode.

Jede Episode hätte eine Länge von 3 und 5 Minuten. Eventuell mal 10 Minuten, wenn es für die jeweilige Episode Sinn macht. Die Episoden sind natürlich nicht zufällig, sondern ergeben eine Geschichte. Die Episoden würde ich nach und nach verfügbar machen. Sicherlich, sobald alle Episoden abgeschlossen sind, alles nochmal zusammenbauen.

What Is the Story About?

A story told with as few words as possible. No accompanying text, ideally no words at all in the audio. No imagery on the cover. I even try to keep the font style as neutral as possible. Because all of this would predefine something for your brain. But discovery itself is a fascinating aspect; interpretation. And I’m quite sure different people will perceive things differently. (Which I, as the creator, find tempting, but also a challenge.)

Also, because I want to tell something with it. Maybe. And even that is already a spoiler I will never repeat again. What I want much more is that people ask themselves: “What just happened? Does this have a connection to what I heard before? Why does it sound the way it sounds? I think he wants to ... convey something.” And so on and so on...

There are very striking elements to hear, but also small details that you won’t notice if you don’t listen carefully. So the story truly invites you to listen — and it is absolutely not something you just play distractedly while driving.

Um was geht es in der Geschichte?

Eine Geschichte, in der so wenig Worte wie möglich verwendet werden. Kein begleitender Text, möglichst wenig oder besser keine Worte im Audio. Kein Bildmaterial im Cover. Sogar den Stil der Schrift versuche ich möglichst neutral zu halten. Denn all dies würde deinem Gehirn etwas vorgeben. Aber gerade das Entdecken ist ein reizvoller Aspekt; die Interpretation. Und ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, unterschiedliche Menschen werden Dinge unterschiedlich wahrnehmen. (Was ich als Ersteller lockend finde, aber auch eine Herausforderung für mich ist.)

Auch, weil ich damit etwas erzählen will. Eventuell. Und schon dies ist ein Spoiler, den ich nie wieder wiederholen werde. Viel mehr will ich, das Menschen sich fragen: "Was ist da gerade passiert? Hat das einen Zusammenhang mit dem, was ich zuvor gehört habe? Wieso klingt es wie es klingt? Ich glaube er will ... transportieren." Und so weiter und so weiter...

Dabei gibt es sehr herausstechende Elemente zu hören, aber auch kleine Details, welche man nicht wahrnimmt, wenn man eben nicht genau hinhört. Die Geschichte lädt also wirklich zum hinhören ein und ist absolut nichts, was man mal abgelenkt während der Autofahrt nebenbei hört.

Episode 1 Is Finished. I Think.

And before I release it to the world, I would like to have it test-listened and get some feedback.

At the end of today, I will create a video – of course without images – and I would like to share a YouTube link via Discord with anyone interested. Then you can listen to the first episode (a little over 4 minutes) and give me your feedback on Discord.

Please not only "good" or "bad". Ideally, I would like to hear your complete train of thought. If writing that down feels like too much, you can also send me a voice message – whatever feels most comfortable for you. If you generally only want to give short feedback, that would also be fine. But I would appreciate detailed feedback: what did you perceive or experience? With which output device did you listen? On your phone? Laptop? Proper speakers? Headphones?

Of course, I have put a lot of thought into it myself; why "this" part in the audio takes so long, why "that" part is so short. Why "this" sound is in the background, why "that" sound is only barely audible. And so on and so on. I’ve also noticed that some things are perceived differently depending on whether you listen through a large PA, studio monitors, or headphones. Just like in music production: a track should sound good on any system; whether it’s on a top-end hi-fi setup or a kitchen radio. Blah blah blah. You see: I’d really like to collect feedback...

Und bevor ich sie in die weite Welt schicke, würde ich sie gerne testhören lassen und um Feedback bitten.

Ich werde heute am Ende des Tages ein Video erstellen - natürlich ohne Bilder - und würde gerne Menschen, die das wollen, per Discord einen Link zu YouTube zukommen lassen. Dann kannst du dir die erste Episode anhören (etwas mehr als 4 Minuten) und mir per Discord Feedback dazu geben.

Bitte nicht nur "gut" oder "schlecht". Sondern im Idealfall jeden Gedankengang. Wenn dir das zu schreiben zu viel ist, kannst du mir auch eine Sprachnachricht schicken - wie es dir am angenehmsten ist. Wenn du generell einfach nur kurzes Feedback geben willst, dann wäre das aber auch okay. Ich würde mich aber um detailliertes Feedback freuen. Was hast du wie wahrgenommen oder erlebt? Mit welchem Ausgabegerät hast du gehört? Am Handy? Laptop? Ordentliche Lautsprecher? Kopfhörer?

Ich selbst habe mir natürlich viele Gedanken gemacht; warum "dies" im Buch so lange dauert, warum "jenes" so kurz. Warum "dieses" Geräusch im Hintergrund, warum "jenes" Geräusch nur leise zu hören ist. Und so weiter und so weiter und so weiter. Mir ist aber auch schon aufgefallen, dass man manche Dinge unterschiedlich gut hört, je nach dem, ob man die Episode über eine große PA hört, über Studiomonitore oder über Kopfhörer. Wie bei der Musikproduktion auch: ein Song sollte aber über jede Anlage gut klingen; egal ob über die Top-HiFi-Anlage oder den Küchenwecker. Bla bla bla. Ihr seht: ich würde gerne Feedback sammeln...

(Well, I think/assume when you recorded some stuff for yourself, you are a good listener. Maybe you recorced just with an electrified potate (and you don't cared about), but I assume as soon as you gave some effort in it, you have some experience and educated yourself. You do good content as far as I've seen - so I assume you have a certain quality level you expect from your output. At least this. Cool! I am looking forward to send you the link later! Yes, I try to do the utmost in quality in all the things I do!

I recorded with a SHURE XLR Mic, using a Scarlett solo device. Audacity for some filtering, and whatever the composition of Air was in my home office on that day.

I did a single, long take to do it all at once. I'm pretty proud of it, but I am by no means a professional voice actor.

Are you publishing this with audible or spotify with paywall? Audible being amazon place would be a good fit. Revenue goes in pocket per month other places however may have 100 USD threshold or something. But yeah that being said I would love to listen before it goes live.

Question should be how much to charge and not about should I add paywall lol. People do pay. If you bring them and they see reviews and find the premise worth buying they will. Definitely go for it. Unfortunately not using discord. as my devices for social media get checked at workplace so strictly using hive like sites.

My friend, innovating once again in your life, I wonder how many @powerpaul there are... Did you learn the shadow multiclone? It's a given, you do 1,001 things, and i, managing to complete the bare minimum of tasks I have.

I'll listen and send you feedback over the weekend. Although it's short, I'm a bit overwhelmed by life. It's something to be enjoyed slowly and !BEER.
