The Importance of Regular Health Check-ups
I am one of the few persons or maybe many who grew up without knowing what the walls of the hospital looked like, not until I had to do a compulsory medical examination, upon gaining admission to the university, It was a first to many things, seeing what inside of the hospital which was considered a bad place to be by y mum and others around me, first time having my blood pulled through a syringe for general blood profile and also checking to know the state of my health.
Rather than feel nervous, I was excited to have this first-time experience, as I had imagined I would one day end up being a doctor, even if I hadn't met one, also I had the benefits of getting to know my blood group and genotype from that day, something I've hadn't the opportunity of knowing all my life, thankfully I was cleared to be of good health, except for the minimal presence of malaria parasite, which I think is expected, considering the continent and country I am, there is no way malaria wouldn't be found in my bloodstream.
All my life I was made to believe the hospital is a bad place to be, so my mum had been my personal doctor when I was ill and maybe luckily for me and my siblings we always had a quick recovery and never had a reason to be admitted, thinking back now, I feel the reason our parent dreaded being admitted int he hospital can be attributed to the high medical bills and also the fear of getting infected by others who had more serious illnesses, and I feel it is ignorance on their part, because there is a tendency of not giving the right dosage of the drug, and early check-up and prevention would have saved us a lot of stress of having to deal with sicknesses some times. To think this is even the basis that so many people stay away from getting medical checks, they believe that, the health practitioners would somehow find something wrong with them making them restless and give in to fear, so they would rather stay back and only visit the hospital when seriously ill.
I used to also have this notion before, but not anymore, especially after having my daughter once admitted to the hospital for a good three months, it was a terrible experience, thankfully she regained full health and since then following the doctor's advice on regular medical checkup has not made us to be admitted again, as preventive drugs and multivites are always prescribed when the situation calls for it.
Unlike before, my parents now advocate getting tested regularly, especially after tragically losing a cousin of mine to kidney damage which was diagnosed at a very late stage, the doctor kept saying she would have been saved only if it had been detected at an early stage, so many lives that ought not have been gone so soon are a result of not taking our health check serious,
I hope someone gains from this post and takes their health and medical checkup seriously, as prevention remains better than cure.

Your advice needs to be heard by many. Good for your parents, it's never too late.
Yes it does, thank you
Sorry for your loss sis. It wasn't a good outcome but then it taught them an important lesson they would never take for granted.
Yea, was a tragic experience.
I remember when I did my first test at the hospital, it felt so thrilling for me. Hospitals just find a way of detecting sickness. That's how the day I followed my mum to the hospital years ago, I remember the doctor telling her that her womb was shifted and it needs to be rearranged. Well after leading my mum said she was happy it was shifted and wasn't hoping on putting it back. She ended up birthing 3 other kids with the shifted womb
This kind of lesson should not be learnt this way. Sorry for your loss.
You get mind oo, I always run from syringes, it is one of the reasons why I dislike visiting the hospital, the only time I visited the hospital was when I gained admission to the university and we had to undergo some tests, I was acting based on ignorant but now I know having regular medical checkup is a bang, it helps you to get rid of any sickness before it surface.
