Beyond the Glitter
At some point in life, we all have someone we look up to, especially during our very young or teenage years, such individuals or mentors often display characteristics that we admire and like to be like someday, we know no one is without flaws but these individuals always seem all too perfect in our eyes that we look beyond that flaws, but there was an instance when I couldn't look beyond it and learned that all that glitters on the outside might truly not be gold on the inside.

Aunty Joy was one of the ladies I looked up to while growing up, she lived in my neighborhood and was married with two sons, who were older than I was, I loved how she carried herself with sophistication even as a mother with two children, we know how motherhood can take a toll on a woman, but I guess she graced the role effortlessly, even as an office worker, she worked at the airport then and would always bring goodies some weekend, somehow she also had a special liking for me and I sometimes felt like the daughter she is yet to have, even though I was a very introverted child who loves the comfort of her home, aunty Joy place was an exception as I would always visit her every weekend, which usually was her work-free days.
One day I would grow up to be an independent, hardworking mum that take care of her family and still slays effortlessly, I would always think, but things began to take a bad turn when Aunty Joy started always having heated quarrels with her husband, I was too young to understand what changed, but one thing I noticed was how disrespectful she always was with her husband, the man was always calm and pampered her, what went wrong, I worried for them, it wasn't my business, but it left a bad feeling in me that going to her place to spend the weekend felt like a burden, to cut the long story short, the last thing I heard about aunty Joy was that she was apprehended for stabing her husband to death after he realized that his supposed children weren't his and aunty Joy was an adulterous woman who took advantage of her job to meet with different men, it broke my heart and that so many in the neighbourhood as their family were always looked upon as a perfect one
Her husband was a good man and did his best to provide for his family, but she wasn't always contented and it seemed that the marriage wasn't built on love and trust, that it crashed so hard, making life difficult for the children it produced.
I don't know what has become of Aunty Joy if she served her sentence or is still serving, her children were taken by relatives who couldn't care for them the way both parents would have, and one is a tout on the street wreaking havoc as an adult, So you see why I had to take her out of my list of role models, no one wishes for a broken home or one built on the foundation of lies, I feel pity for her though and hope life gives her a second chance, as everyone deserves one,

It's so sad indeed, people no longer respect the union called marriage.
Never ignore a red flag, the husband saw it but chose to tolerate it which sadly leads to his death... this is why we must not wait til they kill us before we make them decision.
This aunty joy don't have joy o, stabbing her husband was the least i expected, she just made the young children to start suffering at a young age, without their parents.
Omooooo. I wish it wasn't that she murdered someone, it would've been a bit better. Omoooooo.
Yeah, it's better to walk away
