Mechanized Agriculture and the Future of Food in Nigeria
Agriculture is one of the oldest work of man and still one of the most important till today. No matter how rich or poor a person is, everybody need food to survive. In Nigeria, we know how food has always been one of our biggest challenges because population is increasing everyday but the farming system is not growing at the same speed.
Some people are going into large scale farming now, but it is not easy at all without help of machines. Farming with hand like in the old days cannot feed millions of people again. Tractors, harvesters, planters and other machines are what make farming easier. But the truth is the cost of this machines are very high and the maintenance too. That is why food stuff keeps getting more expensive, because the farmers also spend much before harvest.
I have seen how farmers in the north plant in large scale. Tomato, onions, beans, maize you can get it cheaper there. But once it travels down to south, the transport cost make the price double. Sometimes it is even more expensive than it should be. Many people complain that they cannot buy fresh food, because by the time it reach market it is already costly and sometimes not even fresh again.
Now imagine if we have an application where people can connect direct to farmers. From your phone you can order yam, rice, vegetables, or fruits directly from the farm and it is delivered to your door. No middle man adding too much price, no wasting of time. The farmer sell faster and make profit, the buyer get cheaper and fresh food. Everybody win.
Technology is already helping in many sectors. Why not agriculture too? With mechanized farming and apps that link farmers and consumers, hunger will reduce, food will be affordable, and more youths will even join farming because it will look more modern and profitable.
Agriculture plus technology is not just future, it is survival. If Nigeria really want to solve food crisis, we must take this direction fast.

Buying directly from the farmers will even help make it cheaper, many of these guys are evil and the prices they sell at are outrageous.
Transportation is one of our major problems in the food chain system
