My Experience With a Flood: A Real-Life Survival Story

This year, we’ve seen so many natural disasters around the world floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis. People have lost their homes, their businesses, and sadly, even their lives. It’s scary how quickly everything can change. I used to think disasters only happened to people on the news. But this year, I went through one myself.

It started like a normal rainy season. The rain fell every day, and the sky stayed dark. At first, nobody in my area was worried. But soon, we started noticing something strange the water on the ground wasn’t going away. The drains were full, and little by little, the streets started to flood.

One night, while I was sleeping, I felt water touching my feet. I woke up and saw that water was already inside our house! I was shocked and scared. My family and I rushed to grab a few important things our phones, ID cards, and some clothes and moved upstairs. We couldn’t stop the water. Everything downstairs got wet or ruined.

There was no electricity, no phone signal, and no idea what was happening outside. All we could do was pray and wait for the rain to stop. That night was long and full of fear.

By morning, the rain had finally slowed. When we looked outside, we couldn’t believe our eyes. The whole street was underwater. Cars were floating. Shops were damaged. Everything looked destroyed. It felt like a dream, but sadly, it was real.

After the flood, cleaning up was hard. We lost many of our things, but we were thankful to be alive. It taught me one big lesson: always be prepared.

Now, I keep a small emergency bag in my house. Inside, I’ve packed:

A torchlight

Power bank

Dry clothes

Important documents in a waterproof bag

Some snacks and water

A first aid kit

To anyone going through a flood or any disaster, here’s my advice:

Don’t panic. Stay calm.

Listen to warnings from the news or your community.

If you need to leave your home, do it early.

Life is more important than property save yourself first.

Stay with family or friends. Support each other.
It wasn’t easy going through that flood, but we survived. We helped each other, and step by step, we started to rebuild our lives.

Thank you for reading my story. I hope it helps someone prepare better, and reminds you that even after the worst storm, life can still go on

This was a very touching story. The way you described waking up to water at your feet gave me cold feet. I’m glad you and your family made it out safely. Your emergency bag idea is very smart and I think everyone should have one ready.
