Then Vs now

So I feel the method of upbringing is primarily influenced by the number of children you have. Being a mother of two I can tell how pregnancy, giving birth and nurturing a child can affect a person leading to physiological and psychological changes.

And apart from taking good care of these babies, as an African mom ... You do the cooking, cleaning, etc whether you're sick or not, as a mother you must pilot the affairs of the house and some women still have to work for money to assist the house.

So everyone of these experiences are overwhelming as time goes on trying to break the mother down, each task being done repeatedly day by day exhausts the little strength she has left from child bearing, not being able to mingle, making her feel less of her self , the more the children the more responsibility you have as a mother.

And that's why I have come to the conclusion that all these experiences, act on the minds of our mothers , and the exhaustion make them not less attentive to the children, they might not be able to help every single child with their homework, so the work falls back on the (I don't care teacher ), they might not be able to feed the toddler and at the end they let them feed their selves into malnutrition, they might not be able to get enough food for the children because they're an average family with plenty children and so on.

As for the fathers,you have to provide heaven and earth because these children did not send you pepper market... From the basics, food, water, clothing,etc a good shelter for your family, so while you have so many children, you can't plan your life as a man ... Basically your money goes to feeding, some can't even properly cloth their children because they're plenty.

You can't invest money, you go to work everyday and your month end salary has already been budgeted to the last pin. And all these frustrations would end up being poured on these innocent children.

These parents will start hitting these children for no reason, hating some of them and they see it as a norm so they even let other elders(teachers, elderly neighbours,elders in church )bully the children and bring down their self worth.

They enforced laws without them obeying it , e.g you must be home early etc but they do the opposite of these rules, making us believe where the whole corruption in our country started.

But presently modern upbringing is focused on self expression, parents priority is their children's physical and emotional wellbeing, parents listen to their children and child them against elderly bullies, church bullies and society bullies.

Parents try to build up their children both academically and with skill. They talk to their children to build up their minds against failure and doubt, and they make sure to walk these children to a bright future of complete self worth.

So while traditional values are still important, present day parenting has focused on raising multifaceted individuals.
