WAEC at Night?

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) English language exam started yesterday at 6:15 pm instead of the stipulated time of 9:00 am, and students were returning back home at 9:30 pm and thereabouts. I went to the school with my sister since she was so sick and couldn't go alone. We waited for this paper from 9:00 am till noon, and I had to go back home to attend to other things. I kept calling the school to check on my sister's health and to know if the exam papers had finally arrived, but it was stories upon stories.

I got to know that it was a general issue not only in Lagos State. So what happened? What caused the delay? Why write exams at night with torch lights and with some schools buying fuel and turning on generators for the students to see?

You know, I was thinking that Nigeria's education system would be more structured than this in this era with the advance in technology , but what do we see? MORE CORRUPTION , GREEDINESS, CARELESSNESS, AND MORE...it's irritating!

So the WAEC question leaked, and they had to set another, causing the delay all over the state , so I heard and read. But the question is, who leaked the question papers? If it's not a member of the council , then who? This year is the worst ever leakage I have seen. Sadly , they only noticed the paper for yesterday , but it will interest you to know that all the papers written so far got leaked!!One hour before each paper...just pay a little, join one WhatsApp group, and see all WAEC questions and detailed answers. Students were merging to pay, gaining access ,and creating their own WhatsApp group and circulating the questions and answers. Even an invigilator demanded access to the group so she too could run the business. What a corrupted system. Can it really get better? What manner of lifestyle is this? If not greediness , why should someone expose questions and use them for business? This is heartbreaking. I mean, students will be affected. Imagine seeing that to pass no hard again, they won't read...where are we heading to?

Back to the writing exams at night yesterday. Some students returning home in their uniforms late at night yesterday; it's bothersome, really, in merit ahama voice, lol. If something happens to any of the students, how do the government or exam body plan to be responsible for them? Parents were angry , shouting and expressing concerns over these children. They shouldn't endanger our children because of their mistakes. The WAEC body should be more structured than this please.

I am not expecting 100% from them, but this looseness is too alarming. The Nigerian education system will be looking like a weapon fashioned against somebody in @empressjay's voice, not me...lol. She also confirmed how her cousin, who came to stay with them for this WAEC, never opened her book to read. Do you see that? It's obviously because the answer is readily available for the student.

Corruption everywhere, and yes, the corruption is becoming unbecoming in @hopestylist's voice, not mine, lol. Well, I never expected it to get better, not when our students are becoming more money-minded by the day, she added! That's a fact...even a child of yesterday is already pursuing money; nothing matters much like before. What can I say? I can only hope that we reclaim our education system and make it better even.

If only people can stop relying on EXPO, then we can be producing graduates who can creatively work on making our world a better place and reviving our economy even.

If not for this, I wouldn't have known what happened because my brother called me very late saying he just finished his papers and I was wondering why.

Nigeria's education system has failed a long time and I don't know who exactly to blame. If we can't just set WAEC questions and protect them properly, I wonder what else we can do properly in this country.

They commit so many errors with jamb too and if care is not taken, that sector will completely crumble.

Yes, there were so many errors in the results and they had to start repasting results when parents started complaining that their kids results didn't justify their preparedness for the examination.

It's just so sad that while other nations are advancing Nigeria keeps going backwards. Things just keep getting worse, our politicians are not helping, so the masses continue to do what they like and get away with it. It's a shameful thing for waec and other important exams papers to keep getting leaked every time.

God help Nigeria

This whole thing is interestingly annoying. I’m really wondering where this whole thing is leading us to for real. When I see some of my course mates and how much they rely on expos, I just feel so proud of my little that I know.

Why not write an exam and fail so you can know where you need to improve rather than waiting for someone to either write the exam for you or send you expos? It’s sad and I hope this will serve as a wake up call to everyone.

Thanks for sharing this information with us, mama.

Exams set by waec bodies got leaked? How if it's not by they themselves trying to gain more from the situation.
Too bad, the students and their parents at home are the ones who will suffer from the corrupted process.
I don't even know if to pray that this whole corruption and expo things should end, it's like waste of prayer 😂

I was there with some students live and direct. The papers arrived late and we had to wait. Thankfully, my school's center was fast and they finished up the exam by 7pm after being with them since as early as 8am.

I was so tired on arriving home.

May God help this country and the educational system

I was surprised because when I wrote my own, it was so much like this. Rightly, EXPO was there but our teachers didn't give us the feeling that we should have in our minds that help was assured. We read and read and read. All our practicals were experimented before hand. At least we were 80% ready for the exams. At this point, I don't know if we there's hope again because things are almost at the point of no return.

First of all, I was really angry and didn't bother to read the cause of the delays of arrival of the exam materials.

They leaked?
Actually, this isn't the first na.
Even during our time, it used to leak.
But it's like this one is A grade leaking. I can imagine things like that in this era😅

Since when did this woman become an educator that she's talking about waec.

Anyways yesterday drama is nothing to write home about, the question was leaks and that lead to delay to set another question and still make students sit for it on the same day, I guess they didn't try In that aspect even though their aim is to avoid another leak.

Can't they protect the papers? Why the too much leakage ?

Honestly, the leaking of exam questions is something that's been happening, yet I can't understand why nothing has been done to curb it. I remember writing waec, some three to four years ago, and these external students paid for the leaked questions. Things like this have been ongoing and the leader don't see a problem with systems like these. Isn't it heartbreaking enough, that our education is of no worth in some countries?

Leaking question paper became normal in those country where the corruption rate is high. My country situation was the same but in last few years the situation is improving. I think at least the education system should be free from corruption otherwise it's hard to expecting something good from the future generation.
