Valentine's Day

February 14th, Valentine's Day is in 2 days.

For me, Valentine's Day is a day to express love and an appreciation to someone special, it should be more than just chocolates, flowers or chessy cards, but a day to show gratitude and appreciation for the special relationships in our lives. Be it family, friends or lover, or even ourselves.

But this year, I never really brought my hopes up for Valentine at all, even though I always used to look forward to February 14th.

For a real long time, I kept gifting people on Valentine's and never received a gift. Most of my gifts were never even appreciated except those I give to a family member.

I remember seeing the red handkerchief I gifted one of my crush back then on the floor, and not just that, when my teacher sent a classmate to get something to wipe the whiteboard, my classmate came back with that handkerchief. From that day, it was used as a board wiper.

You can't even imagine how I felt.
He shouldn't have bothered accepting my gifts if he was just going to treat it that way.

I also remember gifting another crush of mine something, and he gifted that same gift to a friend of mine.

But nah, those actions really didn't affect me then. I tend to be a lover girl, a romantic, I love the feeling of being in love, and.... being loved, too. So yes, whenever I liked someone so much, those kinds of actions didn't really shake my feelings for the person.

But that was before, I stopped all that last year, 2024. I've decided not to bring myself low for anybody and especially not a boy. (And even though I now have a boyfriend, I don't overlook even the smallest thing he does that I dislike)

So...... I wasn't really thinking much of Valentine, another reason being because my exams start on the 17th of February. But then, I got an hint from my boyfriend that he was going to gift me something (It'll be the first gift I have ever received on valentine) and my friends kept saying it won't be nice or okay if I should accept a gift from him, and not gift him anything in return. Which is correct. (My plan was to receive this year and not to give).

A friend of mine advised I get him a perfume set, which I didn't think much of at first.

Perfume is a nice gift, yes, but I felt it would be better to get him something he can keep and won't just be done with after some time.

But then, I settled with the perfume set, last Thursday, I paid for a perfume combo for him, which is yet to arrive.

The last time he came to visit me at my school hostel, he asked me if I like and would be able to eat chocolate 🍫, reason being because I can't stomach sweet things or food with so much milk.

I said yes, and I was already suspecting my Valentine's package would come with chocolates.

Days past since that day and on Monday we argued about something and he was like "You're too stubborn, no valentine package for you again" of course, he was joking. He got to be.

But him not getting me a gift will not stop me from giving him what I got him. It's not like he has ever refused me whenever I asked him for something. So I'll just give him as a thank you gift also.

After all, valentine day is also a day of appreciation.

But just yesterday, I was asleep when he called me and asked if I like the color pink, I said no and then he asked "if you were to pick between pink, green, blue and red, which will you pick?", my answer was red, he said okay and ended the call.

I could not sleep again, I knew it had something to do with my Valentine's gift. I could not stop thinking about what it could be, what does he want to buy. I imagined getting different things from him that day, that would be red colour.

We met yesterday, and he murmured something about him not getting what he paid for for me, but I heard him.

I saw his Jumia app open when he left his phone with me, and I was tempted to check and see if it was Jumia he ordered from, but I decided against it. I don't want to spoil my valentine surprise for myself. It'll be better if I am really surprised when I get the gift.

So yes, this time, I am more excited and looking forward to valentine, eager to see what gift he has for me and also his expression when he receives my gift and spending the day with him also.

I have also prepared a gift for a close friend of mine, she's my best girl, my mother and my sister, whose birthday is also February 14th.

It looks like we have someone expecting so many gifts on Valentine's day and it could probably be a return of all the gifts you've given out on valentine's day.

We'd love to know everything in that package if you don't mind and please enjoy your day to the fullest.

It is painful to gift the wrong person or unappreciative fellow. Perfume combo is a good gift for guys, it should last for a long while. Share the chocolate with us here when you get it 😅
