Victory! πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬πŸ†

Greetings everyone!

At the time of writing this, it was still the weekend β€” Sunday afternoon, to be precise β€” so let me still say, Happy weekend to everyone who gets to enjoy weekends, and not like us that have just a few hours into it and, within a blink of an eye, it's Monday already. Lolz πŸ˜„

As for me, my weekend was a sweet one because I got really entertained by football. No, I'm not referring to the very pronounced UEFA Champions League final that happened on Saturday evening. I'm referring to the Unity Cup final between The Super Eagles of NigeriaπŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ and the Reggae Boys of JamaicaπŸ‡―πŸ‡².

What's the Unity Cup about?

Okay, it's a tournament that has been in existence for ages, organized by Brentford City in London. Actually, I didn't know such a thing existed until this year's tournament, which featured four nations: Nigeria, Jamaica, Ghana, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The first matches, which were the semi-finals, were Ghana vs. Nigeria and Jamaica vs. Trinidad and Tobago.

If you know or have ever heard of African football, the rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria can't be measured. This match in particular β€” I mean the Ghana vs. Nigeria match β€” was what really got us jubilating because, hey, it was going to add to the bragging rights of the winners.

Guess what? We won! Of course, I'm a Nigerian β€” that’s why I used the "we." The match ended 2:1 in favour of Nigeria, and we progressed to the final. Meanwhile, the match between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago ended 3:2 in favour of Jamaica, so Jamaica progressed to the final while Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago were to play for the Third Place position β€” or you can as well call it the bronze position.

Yesterday, being Saturday, was the final match between Jamaica and Nigeria at the Gtech Brentford Stadium. The match ended in a 2:2 draw after 90 minutes, and there was no need to go for extra time, as it's not such a competitive match like that.
It went to a penalty shootout, and Nigeria came out victorious with a 5:4 win in the penalty shootout.

During the presentation of the cup, my Koko Master, D'Banj, came out to perform some of his hit tracks like "Fall in Love" and "Oliver Twist." It was all fun because everyone in the stadium β€” both Nigerians and Jamaicans β€” were dancing. That's the power of music. 🎢

Before I continue, let me tell you something.
The last time Nigeria won a cup β€” that was AFCON 2013 β€” D'Banj performed in the stadium before the match. In a nutshell, you don't joke with D'Banj. Yesterday, he performed and we won a cup! 🀣

The cup was lifted yesterday, and it's been all joy.

Well, some people β€” especially those from the opposing countries like Ghana and South Africa β€” have been making mockery of it because, according to them, the tournament is not as recognized as something on the level of the UEFA Champions League and others. Well, even if that's true, this tournament was approved by FIFA, and FIFA officials officiated the matches.

The Premier League club Brentford FC, who hosted the tournament, made a victory post on their social media handle after the win.

Well, the most joyful thing is that we won the tournament, and we beat Ghana in the process.

Thanks for reading.
