The big question of 'Tea or Coffee?': Take Your Pick.

avatar

I once saw a young chap during my days in boarding school trying to take a late-night coffee. The coffee he made was so bad, it almost looked like a work of art. Haha. It got heated, got cold after a few minutes, and got reheated again, and again. The coffee looked pure black like a herbal medicine. And, he took the coffee just like that... No milk and surely, no sugar.

Back then in boarding school, those that took coffee mostly took it as a stimulant that will help them burn their night candles while studying for a test or exam. You know, the caffeine in a cup of coffee is no joke. The circumstances surrounding the first couple of times I saw people take coffee gave me the perception that this isn't something enjoyable. Hehe. I saw it as a sort of med used to keep the angel of sleep away.

And that's probably why I haven't had a sip of coffee since birth till this very moment. Hehe. You can already imagine my take on the big question of "Tea or Coffee?"

Well, I'm not predominantly a tea person, but if tea and coffee are the only options on the table, I will go for tea, ten out of ten times.

What's interesting about my approach to this is that I prefer to take mine in a very unconventional way.

How I like My Tea...

The way I take my tea may be something that has more to do with necessity than preference. Throughout the time I was growing up at home, under the watchful eyes of my parents, the way we usually make our tea is to boil water and use that for the tea. Each person gets to make theirs in their cup. 2 or 3 spoons of tea, 2 spoons of milk and half a teaspoon of sugar.

We continued doing it this way, but when I became 15 or so, my body started to react differently whenever I take tea. From that moment, whenever I take tea, I usually feel something close to hypersalivation and it was very uncomfortable. That aside, I feel stomach ache which doesn't end easily until I take meds. Worst case scenario, it leads to throwing up.

It was never a good feeling.

However, this young lad enjoy tea a little too much and couldn't afford to quit the drink. Haha. Instead of quitting, I started to tweak the way I make my tea until I got to discover that the only reason I feel that reaction from taking it was because I take it in the morning and also because I take it with hot/warm water.

Hah! That's something!

At the moment, I haven't tried tea for over a year. However, I never lack milk at home. I make my milk with cold water and I use brown sugar when making it. I'm planning to try tea again this month and I know it wouldn't give me any issue, as far as I take it when it's past noon and with cold water.

Whenever I'm taking my tea, I add milk and brown sugar to sweeten it. I kinda have a sweet tooth. I know.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma.

Thanks for sharing your tea ritual, I see that differs from the way Picard drinks his tea. Earl Grey. Hot. I haven't drank milk in tea for a long time, but I know it is quite popular, especially black tea.

I once heard about coffee in school too.

I like to try out new things and experiences, so I decide to buy the local one(coffee) and give it a try.

That was the first and last time me trying coffee.

Maybe it is because I don't like squeezing my face after each sip, or that I need to add something before I can take it, which I don't like to do.
I don't use sugar or add anything to my tea(just milk and water) and I like it that way(cold or hot).

Hahah... You are a step ahead of me. Lol. I didn't even bother trying coffee. I just saw how people were taking it and decided that Coffee isn't for me. Lol.

Tea with milk is legit. The only reason I go through the process of adding water to mine os because of my sweet tooth. Haha.

I am a green tea enthusiast. I drink large quantities of unsweetened green tea because I don't like sugar. I am a strong advocate for tea))

Haha... That's good. I'm yet to taste any green tea. That's not very common in my Country. Hehe. However, many people are beginning to use green tea for health benefits. That speaks really good about it. Hehe

I would take tea also if someone offer me coffee and tea. It's because coffee is not suitable for our health because of caffeine and in my case, I don't help me stay awake at night.
Again I am not a fan of tea also but I take it because I became used to taking it from childhood.

Haha... We seem to have the same taste in these two things. I also started taking tea since childhood. That's most likely why I would choose tea over coffee. However, I'm not a big tea fan. Hehe

hehe. It seems we both are the same in this case. In our country, almost everyone takes tea 2 times a day naturally. One is in the morning time and the another is in the evening time. And it's the daily routine but some tea-addicted people also exist at the same time.

Hehehe,
No matter the matter I would always go for tea, hot or cold. Coffee is not something I think I would be willing to try out anything soon . Not while I'm still enjoying the sweetness of tea 😂.

Haha... People that take coffee often make a face that shows that coffee can be bitter. Lol. I'm not ready for that. Hehe.

I'm all in for tea. Lol.

I had tried coffee once and I didn't like how it taste even when I generously sweetened it but how some people manage to enjoy it without squeezing their faces is what am yet to understand. I am a Milo and peak milk person anytime, anyday.

did you know you can make tea from cloves? Cloves has several health benefits, not the least of which is they can help digestion. Maybe try adding 2-3 cloves to boiling water for a few minutes and as it cools add your tea. You'll get the benefit of both.

BTW, some people don't metabolize milk well and sugar isn't good for anyone... including me and I like it too ) I have recently started having some clove tea later in the day but my day will start with coffee most likely

Yes, twice in two days I appeared on your posts.

Haha... You love your Coffee. No doubt about that. Haha. I like how almost everyone that enjoys coffee tries to fit it into their daily routine. Haha. It must be really good to start the day with coffee.

I just looked up 'cloves' on Google. Haha. I don't think it's a popular plant over here. Not a big trend in Nigeria and I'm just hearing of it for the first time. Maybe we have a different name for it. Haha.

You'll be shocked to learn that these days I don't have coffee every day.

interesting about cloves not being popular... I came across this:

What are Cloves Used For? It is a common spice in Asian, African and middle Eastern cuisines. This spice is popular for flavouring meats, curries and for marinading. In Nigeria, it is a popular component of the Yaji (Suya spices) and it features in the making of Zobo drink (roselle calyx drink /hibiscus drink).

maybe because you looked it up as a plant and it's used as a spice?

Hahah... Wowwww. I'm laughing at myself 😂😂😂. Oh, my!

Yeah. When I was serving in the Northern part of Nigeria, I had a taste of their Yaji used on suya. Haha. Never knew that was the same as Clover. Lol. The northerners use a lot of it.

Thanks for this eye-opening information. Hehe. I will have to look it up again. This time around, I will check it as a spice. Hehe

Hehe, tea over coffee anytime. But I do like coffee though. At first I was taking it not to sleep, but once in a while I just take it cause I like the taste.

Haha... The intake of coffee as a way to stay awake is the most common reason for people's intake of coffee. Haha. You seem to enjoy both tea and coffee. Lol. That's a good one

Oh yeah, I usually felt this queasy, uncomfortable feeling in my tummy after taking tea and after thorough investigation by me, I deduced that taking it early in the mornings is what caused the discomfort and that any other time apart from that is better.

But I've become more of a Coffee person so....😅

Lol... Same feeling. Haha. I also get that feeling and it was hard to understand why I consistently felt that way. However, with more self awareness, I was able to identify the problem.
