Time Stretch

Have you ever wished there were more hours in a day? Have you ever wished we had more than 24 hours in a day? If you saw a genie lamp, do you know one of the things you would wish for is to have more than 24 hours in a day? Sometimes, life comes at you so fast that you hope you have more time to relax and enjoy the beauties of life. Sometimes, people say, “I wish I had more time to spend with you, but I have to do this and that.” People, particular job workers who work from morning till night and come back only to rest for a few hours before going back the next morning, would definitely wish they had more time to rest. Of course, if we had more time, things would definitely be different than they are now. Depending on how we use the time, our day can turn out more productive or less productive.

Like many people out there, I have also wished many times that there were more than 24 hours in a day. On days when I go to school from morning till night, then pull off an all nighter until 3 am. On those days, I have less than 2 hours to rest, then about two hours to revise. On those days, I always wish I could freeze the hands of time and sleep for as many hours as I want. I remember the day I felt sleepy in an exam hall because I hadn't slept for about two days. If I had extra hours, I would use them to do the things I try to do b. This brings me to this week’s Hive Naija prompt. If 12 more hours were added to the current 24 hours every day, what new activities would you add to your day. Will it make you more productive or slow down your productivity rate?

If 12 hours were added to the current 24 hours, I would use those hours efficiently. That means I would have more hours to do things I couldn't do due to lack of time. One thing that tops the list is to sleep more. Ever since I got into the university, one part of me that has suffered the most is my sleep life. A lot of hindrances have been disrupting me from having good sleep. From back to back classes, to assignments and presentations I have to work on (these were the factors that disrupted things in my first and second year.) in my third year, other factors came in, like work—engaging and posting on Hive. Chatting with friends and watching anime also makes me sleep late. If 12 hours were added to the current 24 hours, I would have more time to sleep well.

Another activity I would add to my day is exercising or going to the gym. I've always wanted to maintain a fit body. But how do you expect me to do this when I don't even have enough time for myself? I remember when I started exercising every day. I installed an app on my phone and was consistent for a while, but things changed when I got into university. Now, I have other things to do. More important and time-consuming things. If 12 hours were added to the current 24 hours, I would definitely have more time to exercise well.

Also, I would have more time to spend with my loved ones, especially @hopestylist. Sometimes, we get so busy with life and its challenges that it becomes difficult to make time for our loved ones. 12 hours is a lot and I'm sure if I had 12 more hours, I would use it well. It would definitely make me more productive.

Aww! It would be nice if we make out more time to talk to each other but I’m very sure that things will get better when we can see each other. And I believe in the saying that we make time for things and people that matters the most to us (when they need it). If something needs our time, we can choose to make out time for it but it all depends on how important it is to us.

There is every possibility that extra 12 hours won’t change anything but it can too. In the 24 hours we have, we use it on those things we feel matters to us the most at different points in our lives. I always feel a bit sad when I negotiate making out time to spend time with you or those close to me. For me, I have learn to accept the fact that 24 hours is a lot of time to do all I have to do but procrastination or misplaced priorities have always been my biggest weakness.

Just maybe, if I get more hours I’ll be able to balance things better.

Indeed, things will be better if we were closer. I mean, one inch apart. But like mentioned, we have to accept the fact that we have just 24 hours and learn to work with that.

It is sad when we have to sacrifice one thing for another, but that is just the way things are.

Thanks for stopping by, love.

That’s right, baby. We make sacrifices and that includes the sacrificing some of the times we should spend with some things or people we love. What matters is what we do with the little time we get to be with them.

It’s always my pleasure, love. ❤️

I also wish they add 12 hours to our current 24 hours because honestly 24 hours is not enough. Sometimes I will come back from class to sleep I wouldn't because I have Assignments to submit next day so that alone couldn't allow me to get enough sleep. Same here I installed exercising app on my phone so that I can be exercising everyday in other to stay fit but I couldn't continue with it because there's no time.

It can be really draining. Coming back from school to do assignments. Sometimes you don’t even have enough time to cook.🥲

I really liked how you said that if you had 12 more hours, you'd focus on getting more sleep, exercising, and spending quality time with your loved ones. That’s the best way to approach those extra 12 hours. Honestly, if someone only wants extra hours just to work more or make more money, I feel like they’re not going to get satisfied even with 12 extra hours.

Wanting more time for yourself, your family, your wellbeing that’s something I believe is completely fair, even if it’s just a wish and it might never get true, it sounds beautiful.

If I ever got 12 extra hours in a day, I will definitely spend it with my parents, my son, and my wife. They all deserve more of my time. And I think you can relate to that very well.

I will just like to say one more thing, try and make sure you sleep enough. Healthy sleep is very important and I hope you will be able to get it throughout your life.

Hello there, my friend. It is nice to know that you have a child. You are so thoughtful. If we had 12 extra hours, it would be nice to spend it with your family.

Thank you so much for your advice. I'll try to change my sleeping habits.

Thanks for stopping by, friend.
