Beyond Certificate

Right from when I was a child, I have been an inquisitive person. I want to try new things; I want to check new things.I wanted to learn a skill, though the course I studied is something I can practice after school. As a dentist, I could make dentures for people, braces, crowns, bridges, and what have you, but I wanted something outside.

I love doing business, and I try to do a few in school, but my parents never supported it. Nevertheless, there was one I did in school, and the name is chebe powder. It was a hair product that helps grow hair. I and my friend combined money to buy a dozen, divided in half and sold separately. We got back the money and even extra. I was excited and wanted to try more, but the moment my parents noticed, they scattered all my plans.

The ideology of schooling and getting good grades was what I was fed every single day of my life. It started when I was in primary 5. My parents were always chasing me hot to get good grades. I think that was the reason my results became good, though, because of the pressure. After school I realized what life was all about; I regret not starting earlier than then, and each time I advised my sister to get a skill, she didn't budge. For me, she's still young and naive and doesn't even know the harsh reality of life.During covid-19, when I was stuck in the house with nothing to do, boredom wanted to kill me then. I literally begged my parents to let me learn how to bake.

They agreed to it, but it didn't happen. In my father's opinion, it was too expensive, but I knew deep down it wasn't going to work out.I couldn't wait any longer; I mindlessly scrolled through my phone each day till one day I came across a friend's status. She does bead bags. I asked her a few questions, including if she could teach me.

She turned it down but rather recommended someone else for me. I chatted with the person she recommended, and she dropped the amount she was going to teach me, and it was going to be an online class.I didn't have the money to pay, but since it was an online class, there was no need to pay her; instead, I used YouTube to my own advantage.

There are so many things to learn using YouTube. I took advantage of it, and that was how I learned how to make bead bags, necklaces, bracelets, and anklets. It didn't just stop there; I began looking for other means of survival too.

I bought a series of courses that so many people shy away from, and Lucky, one of the courses I bought, is currently paying my bills. I didn't stop there; I kept buying more and advanced in learning graphic design, motion graphics, and what have you. It doesn't matter what your level is now; what you have to improve yourself, save that data for learning something; social media has so much leverage compared to mindless scrolling.

You were such a relentless child, naturally most people would have given up during childhood. You didn't and now you finally have something that can generate money for you.

I also understand that desire of parent wanting their children to do a particular thing which can be so far away from the desires of the children.

Yeah, I can't just say how I felt but frustration is among the list. Thanks for stopping by.

Impressive, your belief didn't just change, you acted on what you find out to be right and now, you got a skill and paying your bills now.
Really, some parents need to understand that life is more than just good grades.
