Repairing an electrical outlet 🔧💡[Eng/Esp]

In the dining room of the house, there is a double outlet that is not working properly; that is, only one of the sockets works. This outlet was replaced many years ago, along with the others in the house, as they were very old and only had a single socket without a ground connection.

I had never checked this outlet because it is one that is hardly ever used in the house, and the few times it has been used, it has been to use a single outlet, so I hadn't bothered to check it.

Hola amigos de hive y @home.solutions, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, hoy les traigo una pequeña reparación en casa.

En el comedor de la casa hay un tomacorriente doble que no está funcionando completamente, es decir, solo funciona una de las tomas, este tomacorriente lo cambiaron hace muchos años atrás al igual que los demás de la casa, ya que eran muy viejos y además solo tenían una sola toma sin tierra.

Este tomacorriente nunca lo había revisado porque es un tomacorriente que prácticamente no se usa en la casa y las pocas veces que se ha usado es para utilizar una sola toma y no me había preocupado en revisarlo.

Today I was free in the afternoon and decided to check it out to see what was wrong with it. The first thing I did was install a light bulb in a lamp holder and plug it into the outlet. Then I went to the breaker box and turned off each breaker until I found the one that cut off the power to that outlet. Once the power was off, I got to work.

I took a Phillips screwdriver and removed the outlet, and that's when I realized that the wires hadn't been connected to the other outlet, because, as I mentioned above, that outlet was a single outlet. I went to where I keep my tools and found some wire. With the pliers, I cut two pieces of the same length and stripped the ends so that the copper wires were exposed.

Hoy estaba libre en la tarde y me dispuse a revisarlo, para ver qué era lo que tenía. Lo primero que hice fué instalar un bombillo en un portalámpara y enchufarlo en la toma, luego fui a la brekera y fuí bajando cada breker hasta encontrar el que cortara la corriente a esa toma, una vez cortada la corriente me puse a trabajar.

Tome un destornillador de estría y retiré el tomacorriente, ahí me dí cuenta que no le habían conectado los cables a la otra toma, porque como les había dicho más arriba ese tomacorriente era de una sola toma. Fuí donde guardo las herramientas y encontré un poco de cable, con el alicate piqué dos pedazos de la misma medida y pele las puntas para que quedara los alambres de cobre expuestos.

Then, with a knife, I cut a piece of plastic from each wire that was connected to the outlet that was receiving power, about a centimeter each, and stripped it until all the plastic was removed. With the same knife, I opened the copper wires of the cable and passed the copper wires from one of the wires I had previously cut between them. Then, using pliers, I twisted them together until they were tight, and then I did the same with the other wire.

Next, I took some electrical tape, "black tape," and covered the cable joints until they were well covered. Then, I connected the cables to the outlet module that had no cables and tightened the screws very well to prevent them from coming out when I put the outlet back in the box.

Luego con una navaja corté un pedazo del plástico de cada cable que estaba conectado a la toma que le llegaba corriente, como un centímetro cada uno, y lo pelé hasta retirar todo el plástico, con la misma navaja abrí los alambres de cobre del cable y entre ellos pase los alambres de cobre de uno de los cables que piqué previamente, luego con ayuda del alicate lo enrollé hasta que quedará bien apretados, después hice lo mismo con el otro cable.

Posteriormente tome cinta aislante, "teipe negro", y forre dónde hice las uniones de los cables hasta que quedarán bien cubiertos, luego lo que hice fué empalmar los cables al módulo del tomacorriente que estaba sin cables y apreté muy bien los tornillos para evitar que se salieran al momento de volver a colocar el tomacorriente en el cajetín.

Finally, I reinstalled the outlet in the box and turned on the breaker. I took the lamp holder with the bulb installed, plugged it into each outlet, and the bulb lit up in both. That's it! Everything worked fine, and that little problem was solved.

Por último, volví a instalar el tomacorriente en el cajetín y subí el breker, tome el portalámparas con el bombillo instalado, lo enchufe en cada toma del tomacorriente y en ambos alumbró el bombillo, y listo, todo quedó bien y ya se solucionó ese problemita.
