My first experience on using a washing machine. Eng/Esp

I’ve always preferred washing my clothes by hand. I feel there is something so satisfying about hand washing, scrubbing the exact spots that need extra attention like the collar area, the armpit area, e.t.c making sure everything is clean. But let’s be honest, doing laundry for an entire household is pretty tiring. Washing clothes for myself, my husband, and our baby twice a week takes up so much time, especially when I have other chores to do .

Lately, laundry have gotten even more exhausting. My eight month old, who just started eating solids, has been throwing up after meals. Some days, I change him to five or six outfits before noon. And when he’s not messing up his own clothes, he’s getting mine or his dad’s messed up too. The laundry in the basket grows faster than I can keep up, and no matter how much I try to stay ahead of it, it feels like a never ending task.

I celebrated my birthday two weeks ago . My husband surprised me with a washing machine. He knew how much I was struggling with the laundry, and this was his way of making things easier for me. I was touched, it was such a thoughtful and practical gift!

Setting it up wasn’t difficult at all. It came with a manual, and I made sure to read through it carefully. Well, almost carefully. I was so excited that I skipped over an important detail, eager to get started right away. I loaded the first batch of clothes, turned the wash button to six minutes, and… nothing happened rather it was making a scary noise that seemed broken. The machine wasn’t washing, it wasn't even rotating. I began to panic, did they sell a faulty appliance to him?

I called my husband in frustration, and he reached out to the company. The sales person told him to “Check the power supply.” It turns out our electricity was running on low voltage at that moment, which meant the machine didn’t have enough power to function. We waited for the voltage to stabilize, and sure enough, when we tried again, it came on immediately.

The washing machine has an inlet and outlet hose for water. I just needed to add detergent directly inside before starting the wash cycle. It felt a little strange at first, I was so used to hand washing that I wasn’t sure if a machine could get my clothes as clean. But once I let the clothes soak, just like I would when washing manually, I realized the clothes came out all cleaned up.

In just 15 minutes, my first load was done! I was amazed. The best part is that I could actually multitask while doing laundry instead of standing over a basin, scrubbing and rinsing for hours. And the spinning feature is 'Amazing! It removes so much water that by the time I hang the clothes, they’re practically dry. Within ten minutes of spreading them out, they’re all dried.

But now, here’s the problem: While this washing machine is incredibly useful, it takes up quite a bit of space, and it consumes a noticeable amount of electricity. I’ve only used it twice, and I’m already wondering if I should keep using it but only once a week or go back to hand washing?

Although it saves time and effort, giving me more time to focus on my baby and other household chores. On the other hand, I’m worried about the electricity bill and the space it occupies in our home.

For now, I’ll keep using it to see how it goes. Maybe I just need to adjust to this new way of doing laundry. Or maybe I’ll find a balance by using the machine for heavy loads and hand washing smaller items. But there is no doubt that this gift has definitely changed the way I see laundry, even if I’m still figuring out if it’s the right long-term solution or not.

Siempre he preferido lavar la ropa a mano. Siento que lavar a mano es muy satisfactorio, restregar exactamente los puntos que necesitan más atención, como el área del cuello, la zona de las axilas, etc., para asegurarme de que todo esté limpio. Pero seamos honestos, lavar la ropa de toda la familia es bastante agotador. Últimamente, lavar la ropa se ha vuelto aún más agotador. Mi bebé de ocho meses, que acaba de empezar a comer alimentos sólidos, ha estado vomitando después de las comidas. Algunos días, le cambio cinco o seis prendas antes del mediodía. Y cuando no está ensuciando su propia ropa, también está ensuciando la mía o la de su padre. La ropa sucia en el cesto crece más rápido de lo que puedo seguir y, por mucho que intente adelantarme, parece una tarea interminable.

Hace dos semanas celebré mi cumpleaños. Mi marido me sorprendió con una lavadora. Sabía lo mucho que me costaba lavar la ropa y esta era su manera de facilitarme las cosas. Me conmovió, ¡fue un regalo muy considerado y práctico!

No fue nada difícil instalarla. Venía con un manual y me aseguré de leerlo detenidamente. Bueno, casi detenidamente. Estaba tan emocionada que me salté un detalle importante, ansiosa por empezar de inmediato. Cargué la primera tanda de ropa, giré el botón de lavado a seis minutos y... no pasó nada, más bien hizo un ruido aterrador que parecía roto. La máquina no lavaba, ni siquiera giraba. Empecé a entrar en pánico, ¿le habían vendido un electrodoméstico defectuoso?

Frustrada, llamé a mi marido y él se puso en contacto con la empresa. El vendedor le dijo que “verificara el suministro eléctrico”. Resultó que en ese momento teníamos un voltaje bajo, lo que significaba que la máquina no tenía suficiente energía para funcionar. Esperamos a que el voltaje se estabilizara y, efectivamente, cuando lo intentamos de nuevo, se encendió de inmediato.

La lavadora tiene una manguera de entrada y salida de agua. Solo tuve que agregar detergente directamente en el interior antes de iniciar el ciclo de lavado. Al principio me resultó un poco extraño, estaba tan acostumbrada a lavar a mano que no estaba segura de si una máquina podría dejar mi ropa tan limpia. Pero una vez que dejé la ropa en remojo, tal como lo haría al lavar manualmente, me di cuenta de que la ropa salió completamente limpia.

¡En solo 15 minutos, mi primera carga estuvo lista! Me quedé sorprendida. La mejor parte es que realmente podía hacer varias cosas a la vez mientras lavaba la ropa en lugar de estar parada frente a un recipiente, restregando y enjuagando durante horas. ¡Y la función de centrifugado es increíble! Elimina tanta agua que cuando cuelgo la ropa, está prácticamente seca. A los diez minutos de extenderla, está toda seca.

Pero ahora viene el problema: aunque esta lavadora es increíblemente útil, ocupa bastante espacio y consume una cantidad considerable de electricidad. Solo la he usado dos veces y ya me estoy preguntando si debería seguir usándola pero solo una vez a la semana o volver a lavarla a mano.

Aunque me ahorra tiempo y esfuerzo, ya que tengo más tiempo para centrarme en mi bebé y otras tareas del hogar, por otro lado, me preocupa la factura de la luz y el espacio que ocupa en nuestra casa.

Por ahora, seguiré usándolo para ver cómo va. Tal vez solo necesite adaptarme a esta nueva forma de lavar la ropa. O tal vez encuentre un equilibrio usando la máquina para cargas pesadas y lavando a mano las prendas más pequeñas. Pero no hay duda de que este regalo definitivamente ha cambiado la forma en que veo la colada, aunque todavía estoy tratando de averiguar si es la solución adecuada a largo plazo o no.
