🦉 The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
- Dendrocopos Greek: dendron tree, coptō to hit, beat
- major (lat.) big

This most common woodpecker species can be found in any forest, at any time of year. It's easy to see and easy to hear, tapping on wood. However, there are some nuances I've noticed about this species. In autumn and winter, this woodpecker prefers to inspect the trees in the upper canopies. But with the arrival of spring, it may descend.

In addition to insect larvae and insects, woodpeckers also feed on plant matter, such as conifer seeds, which they create by making a hole in the tree bark and inserting a pine cone into it. But that's not all. Few people know that woodpeckers can also eat the eggs and nestlings of other birds.

Now the bird is becoming rare and almost extinct. I admire the hands of those who were able to photograph it and thank you for sharing.
