🦉 The yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella)
- Emberiza embritz (Old German) bunting
- citrinella citrine (lat.) yellow; citrinella (Italian) yellow bird

These birds arrive early, when there is still snow, around the end of March you can already hear their simple song. This applies to my city, and in other regions they do not even fly away for the winter, they stay for the winter. Buntings love open spaces, such as forest edges, fields, roadsides. They often sit on high stems of grass, looking for insects or seeds.

They have a strange habit, before eating they can shell the seeds, hitting them on the branch, like a carpenter with a hammer. And something tells me that this is why in English they are called yellow hammer.
