🦉 The lesser whitethroat (Curruca curruca)

  • curruca - is an unidentified bird name mentioned in poems by the ancient Roman poet Juvenal

This modest bird is not numerous in my city, compared to other birds of this family. It lives in bushy areas, no matter where, it can be river banks, or mixed forest. And even in the city yard I hear their songs.

The song of this bird is a special story. Unlike the ringing trills of other warblers, its voice sounds like a creaky, slightly uneven muttering - as if the bird is embarrassed to sing or is just learning. Ornithologists joke that this is "vocal with an inferiority complex." But in alarming situations, it produces a characteristic sharp "chak-chak", by which it is easy to recognize.
