Pink Flamingo at the Calgary Zoo

This pink flamingo at the Calgary zoo was one of many. As I watched this bird dip its head in and out of the water, I liked the way the reflections rippled. I have learned that it is actually the food that they eat that gives the flamingos their pink color. From algae to microscopic brine shrimp, their bodies metabolize pigments that turn these feathers pink. This flamingo is currently in the act of eating and keeping its colors looking as pink as ever!

Beautiful creatures, its fascinating that their bodies react that way to what they eat. Cool photos
