Hadada Ibis at the Calgary Zoo
This is one bird that I always thought had a very cool look. I think it's the splash of colors, with the green and red really standing out. They are actually named for their call, which sounds like ha-da-da, ha-da-da. The Hadada Ibis has a habitat that consists of wetlands, marshes, and moist grasslands throughout sub-Saharan Africa. They are carnivorous birds, eating mostly worms, crustaceans, and small reptiles. Their sense of touch is what they rely on most to find prey with long beaks that can help them sort through and aerate the soil.

As I read the text, I felt as if I could see the bird before my eyes. The colors, calls, and habitats are all presented so simply and beautifully that the story comes alive with the pictures.
