Female Mallard Ducks at Weaselhead Flats

These ducks were floating on the Elbow River in an area where it feeds into the Glenmore reservoir on the west end of Calgary. This spot is called the Weaselhead Natural Area and is filled with forests, marshes, rivers, and hills. Also, there is an abundance of wildlife further out from most of the hustle and bustle of the city. On this hike, I seem to have encountered quite a few mallard ducks, and from what I can tell, every one was a female duck, which was interesting as I typically find a mix in most other places that I see them.

Surprisingly you know a lot about these ducks. But why are there only these 1 or 2 ducks here? I mean, usually, ducks also live with their entire big family. Nice pictures though! :)

I saw some of the little ones floating around as well, these ones seem to be out looking for some fish.

Beautiful photo
It's surprising how you know they are female. I hardly know that 🤦

There's a duck swimming, but it actually becomes an impromptu model 😂 btw the portrait results are good.

Haha that is very true, I almost wish I had some way to pay the birds but I know they have some good food in the water.
