Living on the Ridge

While the Capilano park is best known for its main attraction, the suspension bridge, it also offers many other attractions that could be more enticing than the swaying heart-stopping cliff-hanging bridge. There are also short walks traversing the expansive grounds on both sides of the canyon and can be a nice way to settle those butterflies in your stomach from the nausea-inducing rocking.

Pets are not raptor friendly

Raptors Ridge is located near the edge of the canyon from which the bridge is suspended, and it's dedicated to those birds who get up in the morning and choose violence.

Raptors are not pets

Don’t expect to see all kinds of raptors flying around, but they had set up an area where one could listen to experts. A specialist was giving a demonstration of a barred owl, which are common around these parts. I once saw an owl hunting in a river. It was perched on a tree, observing the shore, and it dove on the rodent but got nothing. It looked at me, and I think it was a little embarrassed, but maybe I was just anthropomorphizing.

This following sign is up to scale and gives one a good sense of how big these birds can be in relation to each other. Thank you for visiting.

Owls look so cute, but they have strong and muscular legs. haha

And that scale, showing the various birds' wingspans and size differences, looks cool.

Owls make me a little nervous with their front facing eyes, and their grasp must be powerful as you say. They're majestic creatures.

Owls are secretive birds so they're hard to spot in the wild. I was lucky to have seen one in the forest. The one in the picture was big and seemed very cunning. 🦉
