Yesterday, our yard received an unusual visitor. A bird, which we hadn't seen approaching in the nearly 50 years we've lived here, landed a few feet from the walkway and pecked at the grass for about 5 minutes.

I didn't know their name and called them black herons. I saw them in groups, flying and feeding around the neighborhood. I felt sorry for them because of their old lady or witch-like appearance.
