Winter is ending, but it only ends on the calendar. Winter continues and will continue for at least another month and a half. And if we take into account the amount of snow that has fallen on our heads this year, then it will definitely upset us for a long time. So I have to keep feeding the birds. I hope that my stock of sunflower seeds will last until the end of winter.
The Redpoll bird has become a special feature of this winter season. More precisely, I should say that not just one or two birds with red caps, but a whole flock. Last week, there were at least 30 heads during a heavy snowfall. My wife was surprised that these little birds were sitting not only next to the feeder, but also just on the roof of the neighboring house, in the snow. This has never happened before.

And although winter is still going on and is not going to end, the birds have already begun to prepare for their annual mating games. The guys put on their best outfits, i.e., the plumage begins to change its color. It becomes brighter and more colorful. But this only applies to guys.

This photo was taken on Friday, and there was even more snow on Saturday. During my stay in this area, I do not remember such a large amount of snow. However, my friends from other regions say the same thing. The snow cover is almost as high as the fence. The fence height is 150 cm.

The Redpoll is a gregarious bird. If one bird gets scared of something and decides to take off, then the rest of the birds do the same, like a single organism. Of course, there are always exceptions to everything, and in this case, there are birds that stay put.
