Breaking Glass ~ The pitfalls of online shopping
Hello Hello Hivians.
One of my favourite subscriptions is to Amazon Prime, which generally means free next day deliveries for purchases made on the Amazon website.
Breaking Glass
Some of you know I love my punk, and I know @geneeverett falls into that category. So when I hear Breaking Glass then I immediately think of the album from London punk Hazel O'Conner from the film of the same name that she and her band starred in, in 1980.
It was her debut album and was way better than the film I reckon!
Some tunes from the film and album in this quick wee video 👇
However, this is not a Tuesday and it is not a ttt post!
No .... it is about another sort of breaking glass...
Mrs T has been feverishly making green smoothies with the new magic bullet blender that she got. She makes three bottles at a time. These are stuck in the fridge and one is drunk each morning!
This is all well and good but the bottle are plastic.
So being as we love glass, she sourced some thick glass bottles with metal screw caps from Amazon.
They had good reviews and came as a pack of two.
No bother, she wanted 3 bottles, so get 2 packs says I and that way we have one spare in case we break one!
She also got some charcoal sticks to put in our drinking water.
The button was pressed and the delivery came today this evening.
I took the package and gave it to her to open...
I hear broken glass she says ....
She opened up the first box of two and they were okay...
Knowing there was a breakage in there we were prepared and I was taking videos and pictures of everything.
Amazon used to send things in cardboard boxes now though, to be more eco friendly they often use brown paper bags as you can above. The cardboard box was from the manufacturer.
Each bottle was wrapped in some sort of slightly cushioned plasticy type packaging. Mrs T is pointing & pushing the packaging ... It shouldn't be doing that...
This was what was underneath..
One broken bottle ...
So onto the Amazon website I went, expecting to write a Hive type post complete with photographs of the damage...
Imagine my surprise when I find where I need to be, damaged product and the box was undamaged.
I then had 200 characters to say where and what the damage was!
I didn't even need a fluffing picture!
They gave me a QR code to scan at an EVRI dropoff point, which happens to be the wee Tesco grocery shop I use round the corner.
We did make use of the good package and here they are in the fridge...
So yeah online shopping is great but sometimes the delivery screws you.
Do you know that nowhere on any box / bag does it say fragile or have a glass sticker.
I know how things are packed and shipped inside an Amazon warehouse and shipping dock, this is a fluffing recipe for disaster!
Have you had any broken glass deliveries?
Thanks so much for popping in and may you have a fluffing awesome rest of your week.
All images and ramblings are from me, the mad Scotsman TengoLoTodo unless otherwise stated.

Here in Venezuela, when something “fragile” is to be shipped, a kind of commission or “insurance” is paid. This is the only way to make a claim. If you do not declare that what you are sending is easy to break, so as not to pay extra, then if it breaks, the company does not pay anything. Somewhere I saw that some customers complained about the way Amazon “couriers” threw away the packages. Anyway, good that you were able to fix it soon and that you are consuming green juices on a daily basis. Hugs and be careful not to break anything!!! hahaha
Yes either the couriers, or I think the Amazon people in shipping throwing the package around, I have seen them do it many times when auditing warehouses 🤣
🎉🎉🥳 Congratulations 🥳🎊🎊

here the deliveries are even worse. I had my weeding machine part which made from cast aluminium got chipped, O I believe it will be best to not order thing made out of glass here in my country through online shopping.
!LOLZ
Amazon is so big now that they just refund most stuff without even questioning it. I can't tell you how many times a month I go to the UPS store to drop off some clothes my wife didn't like and wants to return to them.
The good thing is that they solved the problem for you. I once made an online purchase on Mercado Libre, and the item also arrived broken; it was a small ornament. I ended up losing it because I had to pay a fee to return it, which was almost the same as the item itself.Happy day my friend @tengolotodo.
most venors dont take proper care when shipping fragile things, i think it should even be written somewhere so the delivery folks will handle it with care when shipping out, however i do hope miss T gets better soon
Wow, I wonder if it is a thing for Scotland? Down here in Wales we get all our stuff (well I do anyways) in cardboard boxes.
That's why I'm hesitant to order some breakable items online. Even though they can refund it, it's still troublesome to return sometimes.😌😌
Amazon's packing has a lot of area for improvement. Once upon a time they were pretty good, but lately it seems like they use the cheapest material to send things and breakage is a lot more likely. What a shame they managed to break one, probably when one of their people threw the box rather than placing it down softly.
Glass is healthier though, those microplastics can't be good for us. They're finding inside of individual cells in the body and even in the lining of blood vessels. We may have already poisoned ourselves far more than we realize...
Enjoy those green smoothies and I hope they get you an unbroken replacement bottle soon!
