pineapple guards

This is my post for #silverbloggers
My pineapples were getting too much water, so I moved them but in this place, they were not getting enough sun, so I had no choice but to move them out back where the sun shines the most, but the critters could easily get to them. They all have fruit on them that is starting to get ripe.

I saw someone's post, somewhere, I think a pineapple site, anyway, he put gutter guard around his pineapples. So I ordered a roll of aluminum gutter guard. It came with gloves and zip ties.

I cut it to fit around the pineapple. I had a bunch of wire twist ties and used them to hold the ends together instead of using the zip ties they sent. I also cut the wire across the top and bottom. I did this so I could fold the wire around the pineapple on the top and bottom. I hope this keeps them from being eaten. It looks like it will work.

Things we never know are happening to get pineapples to our tables intact -- thanks for the info!

I do not know if the commercial growers do this, they grow so many, maybe if an animal eats some, it is like when we lose a fish, it happens.

Hope your fruits ripen up without bugs feeding on them.

Thank you, but bugs don't mess with pineapples, it is the rats, opossums, squirrels, and raccoons. They smell them when they are almost ripe and will eat into them before they are ripe.

What a great idea:) My ideas are usually a bucket with the plants in cages 😂 But I don't grow pineapple either, is it difficult?

You can use anything as long as it can not be chewed through.

Pineapple are the easiest plant to grow, as long as it is in well draining soil and you do not overwater. You just need patience, the first one will take a couple of years to produce fruit. If you leave a new pup on the mother plant after it fruits, you will get fruit every year.

I find it rewarding to grow different fruits.
If you get the chance to get a top from a pineapple, try to plant it, it is easy, just let it sit in the shade for a few days, then pull about an inch or two of the leaves from the bottom and plant it in a good draining soil. They do not like a lot of water but need sunlight.

It looks like we all have to contend with wildlife when we grow things! The wildlife and the produce are just different from one location to another. Good job with the pineapple guards. I sure hope they work.

I think they should work. Yes, every place that people try to grow food, there is a critter nearby waiting for it to get ripe.
