Operation Cut and Rip Repair
Nearly a month ago, I had cables stolen off my property. It's big business - cables, that is. Because the copper they contain is a sellable commodity and it's not just in South Africa.
After submitting a damage report and quotes, the insurance paid out. Mostly. Fortunately, they didn't specify provider, and my friend the sparky, could do the job. Starting with the urgent bits: getting the pumps connected so that I can water my garden. Already, it was showing the signs of dry - even with the municipal irrigation water that fills my dam every two weeks - before they arrived to perform operation repair last Thursday.

I knew that the repair job would be quite an operation, but hadn't imagined seeing everything laid out quite like it was.
Mercifully, the excavating was kept to a minimum because The Husband had done things properly when he laid the cables when we The Husband and team installed the borehole pump, six years ago.

It was before the end of a four-year drought and a game-changer for us and for the garden.

As I said, because The Husband had done things right, and the remaining conduit undamaged, they were able to reconnect the control panel and pull the new cable through to the pump housing that lives in the "villa".

With the job done, a modicum of sanity has returned and my watering regime has returned to normal, to be ramped up as the summer heat arrives.

Until next time

Good morning. Thank God you were able to fix it.
Cannot believe it's six years ago you were showcasing this development, job well done by Hubby first time round has saved you many problems this time. Knowing the layout also helps!

Yes, almost to the month. I am so glad to have it as we're heading into water restrictions on 1 November.
Water is like gold in this country, can never have too much. Great to hear you winning after set-back.
Hey, sorry what happened to you…stealing cables…I mean, what the hell 😒
And I have a totally unrelated question…did you give money to this person?
Thanks so much. And no, I didn't give her money. I smelled a rat and turned her down. Sadly, I've seen too many scams - not just here, but on other platforms and IRL.
Yeah, it is a scam. I posted the article now because I did some research, and it looks like she scammed many of us…thanks for the answer!
The cable thefts are going on all around the country. Even big church bells get stolen. Glad that you could get things sorted out milady.
