Winds of Change — Crypto and Otherwise

The world is a strange and wondrous place, sometimes. Well, perhaps most of the time.

I have to admit that half the time I have no idea what's going to happen next.

Tomorrow (or today, depending on your perspective), we get a new President. Will "sweeping change" actually happen?

I don't know.

But I do know that the Internal Revenue Service is dialing up their reporting requirements on crypto for the 2025 tax year. More stuff to keep track of, requiring the expenditure of more time we don't have.

Bitcoin is behaving erratically. In the past 12 hours, it had gone from $106,000 all the way down to $99,000 and now back up all the way to over $109,000, a new all-time-high.

Meanwhile, our soon-to-be President launched his own memecoin that almost immediately became a top-20 in terms of market cap. There's something mildly surreal about that.

Does make me wonder whether the whole idea of crypto is going to become even more of just a gamble, or a game of roulette... rather than actual investing, with any kind of tangible product.

Maybe I'm just being old-fashioned in not fully supporting what seems like a money-for-nothing paradigm.

I actually spent most of the day putting items up for auction on eBay. It used to be something I did all the time; every week. There was a time when collectibles were popular... they seem to have become almost archaic over the past 25 years.

But I am going to persevere and see what happens!

In completely unrelated news, we learned that our oldest son (37) and his wife are expecting a fourth child, in late spring. That was a total surprise... their three are 16, 12 and 8. That's a pretty big gap between oldest and youngest... but they are going to "go with it."

Sometimes life just throws you curveballs...

Like earlier today when I checked in for a few moments and noticed that our own Hive token was somehow back under $0.40. Made me sit and ponder the strange juxtaposition of a memecoin having so much "value," while a place like Hive struggles to ever get any kind of airborne, in spite of everything tangible that gets built here.

As I said up top, most of the time I have no idea what's going to happen next.

And maybe that's OK. Uncertainty keeps us awake and on our toes, I suppose... so there's that.

For now, I'm going to celebrate the fact that I have written a faily blog post for two weeks straight!
