There is a saying in my country that goes, “What belongs to the priest goes to the church,” and I'm going to tell you why.

Ever since I met José in my teens, I liked his personality. He was a calm, respectful, and intelligent boy. At that time, José would go to my dad's farm to work during his vacations to earn money for his personal expenses. That's when we started hanging out, and I always enjoyed being with him.

Desde que conocí a José en mi adolescencia me gustó su forma de ser, era un chico tranquilo, respetuoso e inteligente. Por aquellos tiempos José iba ala finca de mi papá a trabajar en sus periodos vacacionales para obtener dinero para sus cosas personales, fue entonces cuando comenzamos a tratarnos y siempre me gustaba estar con él.

One day my grandmother fell ill and I was moved to another city to study and look after her. At that time, I still didn't have any real feelings for José. On the contrary, when he left for the city, I quickly forgot about him until I saw him again.

Un día mi abuela enfermó y me trasladaron de ciudad para estudiar y estar al pendiente de la abuela, en ese entonces aun no sentía un sentimiento verdadero por ese José, por el contrario, cuando él se iba a la ciudad y yo rápidamente me olvidaba hasta que lo volvía a ver.

I spent three years studying in San Antonio del Tachira. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away just as I was about to finish high school, so I no longer had any reason to stay there and I returned to my village, determined to get ahead on my own.

En San Antonio del Tachira pasé tres años estudiando, lamentablemente mi abuela falleció cuando ya estaba a punto de terminar mi bachillerato así que ya o había motivos para seguir en ese lugar y me devolví para mi pueblo decidida a salir adelante por mis propios medios.

I was a fun girl, I liked to dress well, go out dancing with my friends, have my own income, so I quickly got a job and started studying a computerized secretarial course at the same institute where guess who was also studying there! Yes! José!

Yo era una chica divertida, me gustaba vestir bien, salir a bailar con mis amigos, tener mis propios ingresos, así que rápidamente conseguí trabajo y me puse a estudiar un curso de secretariado computarizado en el mismo instituto donde ¡adivinen quien estudiaba ahí también! ¡Si! ¡José!

Every night we would leave school and he would walk me home, and without realizing it, a special feeling developed between us. Then we would go out with friends to dance, we would go on walks, and it was on one of those days that he confessed that he liked me.

Cada noche salíamos del instituto y él me acompañaba hasta la casa y sin darnos cuenta nacido un sentimiento más especial, luego salíamos con los amigos a bailar, salíamos a paseos y fue en uno de esos días en que me confeso que yo le gustaba.

At that time, I was single and had no commitments, so I didn't see any problem with it, but he had a long-distance girlfriend whom he saw whenever one of them could travel. We talked about it, and he decided to travel to end the relationship, but to his surprise, when he arrived in Caracas, it was she who ended it. The truth is that it was a relief for both of us because we both wanted to have something that started well, without hurting anyone.

En ese tiempo yo estaba sola, no tenía ningún compromiso, así que no le vi inconveniente, pero en cambio él si tenía una novia a distancia que veía cada vez que alguno de ellos podía viajar. Conversamos sobre el tema y él decidió viajar para terminar, con la gran sorpresa que cuando llego a Caracas fue ella quien le termino y la verdad fue un descanso para los dos porque ambos queríamos tener algo que empezara bien, sin dañar a nadie.

That's how our beautiful love story began. He was 19 and I was 18. He is quiet and I talk a lot. he is serious and I am playful, he is slow and I am fast, so as another saying goes, “opposites attract.” We fit together perfectly because when I want to run, he slows me down, when he doesn't have much to talk about, I talk for both of us, and between the two of us, we have tried to build something beautiful that maybe one day I can tell you about.

Así comenzó nuestra historia de amor bonito, él tenía 19 y yo 18, el es callado y yo hablo mucho, él es serio y yo rochelera, él es lento y yo rápida, así que como dice otro dicho “polos opuestos se atraen” nosotros nos acoplamos perfecto porque cuando yo quiero correr él me frena, cuando él no tiene mucho tema de conversación yo hablo por los dos y entre los dos hemos tratado de construir algo bonito que tal vez algún día les pueda contar.
