My Hive Fest Diary 3a: Day 1 Conference - 3 Takeaways from @thebeedevs Presentation

Here's my first pic of me let loose on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, posing in front of "some random tall building" - rather, in front of a random hotel in front of a random tall building - while on my way to the RexKL Cinema for the Day 1 Conference. (The "random tall building," I found out later, is called Merdeka 118 [Merdeka = "Independence"], the tallest building in Malaysia, which I suppose is why I can see it while beetling along a random KL street.)

Sapper Hurley Was Here?

Here we are at the entrance of the converted cinema. It was opened in 1948, so I was looking forward to checking out this building because my father, a sapper in the Royal Engineers, served in Malaya (as it was then) during the "Emergency" in the 1950s. (An "emergency," you understand, not a war, so the plantation owners would not lose out on insurance claims...) Did my dad ever come here on leave? I don't know.

Okay, let's get on with the main topic, which is "my three takeaways" (as someone who is not a developer) from the first presentation, which was by @itsola of @thebeedevs ...

Takeaway 1. Metamask

The Beedevs have succeeded in getting Hive approved by Metamask, which means you can:

(1) use Metamask as your Hive wallet and swap Hive for whatever other tokens work with Metamask. I have a dormant Metamask wallet so it might be time to dust it off.

(2) open a new Hive account with Metamask, which I guess could help make onboarding easier, or at least give us more choice as to how to effect it.

Takeaway 2. HiveSense

We could do with a better search function, so this sounds promising, but I haven't tried it yet.

Takeaway 3. Nodes

No node pics, sorry. However, I was interested to see that the cost of running a node has come down quite a lot: from $2,000 to something like just $100, and there's also a big reduction in the amount of RAM and storage capacity that you need.

Indeed, the audience was impressed when @itsola revealed that the little pouch she was carrying actually contained her own portable node! Unlike me, @techcoderx was thoughtful enough to take a couple of photos of it during Chainfest on Day 2, that you can view here:
