Hold the bull by the horn - Overcoming fear.

The fear of failing is synonymous to fear of the unknown. Basically, when we become uncertain of some outcomes the next thing that comes to mind is what if we fail? You know we've been indoctrinated for a long time coming to see failure as limitations when in the grand scheme of things failure is actually a learning curve and a measure of upgrade. Fact remains that, we don't really lose unless we give up on trying because whatever we embark on will always have two outcomes.

Both outcomes are either succeeding at a go or we fail to try again till we get it right. The choice is always ours to make and regardless, both outcomes could either make us or break us. For me I overcome the fear of the unknown and the fear of uncertainty by seizing the moment, being calculative and just going with the flow. First I check with my intuition, do I feel strongly enough about my decision? Do I trust the process and am I ready to accept whatever the outcome might be?

Before now, I used to be someone afraid of taking risks especially when it involved money. In the same vein, I am that person who hates what ifs. I hate contemplating on what would have been so as I advanced further in life, I realized that life always has a way of balancing things. Like my boss will say we lose some and we gain some. The thing is if we are afraid of losing, if we are scared to try out because we don't know how things will turn up, how do we gather the needed experience to win?

Fact remains in failure, we learn all the needed techniques, tactics and patterns to accomplish or achieve the bigger win.

I remember starting up a restaurant when the Economic situation in my country wasn't that bad. I had just quit my job and decided to try out in business from some money that I have saved up. Honestly, I didn't know if I was making the right decision, I didn't know if I would succeed in the cooking business but at that particular point in time it was what I set out my heart to do so I went for it. Business started Ok but as time progressed and the Economy dwindled, I realised I could no longer keep the business afloat and sustain my family from the business earnings.

Like I said, life has a way of balancing things. I made efforts to earn from business and when I realised I was making losses, I had no regrets. All I did was to look for alternatives and luck smiled on me. I got a call from a job I had applied for while still in School for my second degree. I didn't think twice as I accepted the job. I still had some rent left in my restaurant so I rented it out and was able to regain some of the capital of which I used to rent an apartment when I relocated for the new job. That's not all, the cooking and eating utensils I had gotten was what I used to start life with while away from home.

Right now, with my experience in cooking business and my knowledge of how the Economy operates, I am able to tell to a large extent how any business will turn out from start up. You know I had imagined, what if I didn't try out my hand in running a restaurant because I got scared of not knowing if the outcome will be favourable or not? I would have probably squandered that money and won't have anything to fall back on when the job came. In Fact the job might not even come because life is a process, pattern and stages. One outcome will always lead to the next and one situation is at all time a preparation for the other.

I have my own list of phobias. I have found that facing one's fear is the best solution.

Thank you for sharing on the PYPT Podcast.

Experience IS the best teacher, especially for things like business. You can strategize as much as you want, and still end up with the shock of your life when you get into business. Entrepreneurs in general are always their own biggest fan, so no matter how impracticable a business idea might sound at first, your mind will convince you it'll work, because obviously if you think it's a great idea, others must too, right?

I got a call from a job I had applied for while still in School for my second degree

This caught my attention as well. I am very curious what your degrees are in.
