Mondo Duplantis and How to be A Master of Your Craft

To be the most accomplished athlete in your field all time, and perhaps the greatest sportsman of this Generation (maybe ever) is no mean feat. To do it all by the age of just 25 is completely unprecedented.

Well, unprecedented isn't quite the word these days when watching Mondo Duplantis perform. Before he stepped up to take his first vault earlier today at the World championships, there were already expectations of not just a victory, but another World record. He did not disappoint, clearing 6:30 Meters for his 14th World record since he turned professional in 2019.

I have seen dominance in sports before. We can easily talk about the Likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Lebron James, Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather amongst many others. Even in Athletics who can forget the great Usain Bolt. Yet for all the great Athletes mentioned, Mondo Duplantis stands our for several reasons.

The first of course is his obvious talent. I don't think anyone comes close to the raw talent that Mondo possesses in the Pole Vault. That's not to discredit all his hard work and effort in the sport, but he has literally been a one man show in the sport thanks to his flawless technique that leaves spectators stunned.

Secondly is the crazy confidence he brings into competition. Unlike some stars who choke in the Big moments, you almost expect Mondo to live up to billing.

At the age of 25 he is undoubtedly the greatest ever in his discipline. This goes beyond his World records, but rather years of total dominance and big performances since he vaulted (pun intended) into the scene.

The Man deserves his flowers.
