It's the weekly staff meeting that John has with his direct reports, the time of the week when John would brief them on what are the new changes or "big news" that will be coming along the way and also for them to update him on their work progress.

Recently, John notice that his top sale champion Jamie has been herself, coming to work late, unable to deliver on sales target, thus he decided to do an impromptu 1-1 meeting with her after the staff meeting to understand more.

To his surprise, Jamie submit her resignation letter during the 1-1 meeting which caught John totally off guard. Losing your top gun is an issue no manager would like to be presented with.

Thanks to his mentor, Kane who John hold deep admiration for, a fatherly figure to John. Kane has taught him in times like this, don't be fast to jump to assume and try to counter offer, instead, always post "What happened?" and the next most important thing - Listen with ears and heart open. then allows both parties to digest then to offer a counter proposal.

In life, we all had all that one person that we hold deep admiration for, it could be our parent, our teacher, our very first mentor, and often this figure would form our character and shape our working style in one way or another. Likewise, we can all also be that one figure to your children, your mentee or even your staff. Let's all strive to be a good figure to those who admires us and help each other in the smallest way possible to grow and flourish.
